Looking for a fairly modern tablet to put all the stupid "smart" device apps on as I don't want to put any of that crap on my new phone. And honestly my eyes aren't what they used to be, so something bigger than a phone screen would be very useful. Looking for something full sized, not a mini.

I'm okay with android or iOS, but looking for something newer so I don't have to deal with lack of updates and whatnot.

Basically though, I'm not looking to spend a bunch otherwise I'd just go retail. Let me know what you have!

A few easy mods with Fire Toolbox (eg. adding the Google PlayStore, disabling ads, etc.) and you're good to go!

I got a 10.9" Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE (128GB, Grey) Wifi + 5G that I got through T-Mobile at the end of 2024. It's basically sat on my nightstand for a year, doing nothing. I have a screen protector and a Spigen case that's been on it since day one that also holds the stylus pen it comes with.

$180 shipped? I probably still have the box and all that it came in.

Let me think about this one. I need to decide whether to go with something mid-sized or full sized (10"+) before I jump.

I'd like to avoid the Amazon ecosystem at all costs at this point (he says as he's still running Eero wifi APs, but that'll change soon). I'd also prefer to not deal with mods/hacks. That said, I do have a FireHD 10, not sure if my kid will give it up.

I bought a couple of these metal body 11" tablets in late November 2025 for $59.99 on Amazon: https://a.co/d/9C6VAx5. They are Android 14, 8 CPU cores, 11" IPS 1080p (1200*1920) LCD screen, 128 GB internal storage and a micro SD port, 5G Wi-Fi, 4 stereo speakers, built in case, and work quite well. It is pretty fast. No need to unlock it. I realize you said you want to avoid the Amazon ecosystem (but that is harder said than done with this type of part in the USA).
