Dolby Digital with sound cards?

I guess I'm missing somthing reading all these threads. Are there soundcards that encode to 5.1 DDigital and send it through a coax/optical wire to a DDigital decoder? I'm looking for Doom3/NFS stuff. I understand DVDs do their own thing, but in a game, how do I get 5.1 digitally through home theatre receiver?

Or, what sound card do I need?
