Alright, I have an Asus A7N8X that comes with the nForce audio that is apparently Dolby Digital Certified. I'm watching a DVD right now, yet when I configure PowerDVD to play with a 6 speaker setup (I'm using Logitech Z-640 5.1 Speakers) it seems to mess up the audio and it comes out all muffled.

In the nforce control panel, I have the following setup:

How do I properly configure my system (with powerdvd) to playback 5.1 sound.

You have an A7N8X Deluxe, right? Otherwise there is no Soundstorm-approved audio on your board.

You need to set your Power DVD to 5 speaker audio...not two speaker audio. Do you actually have a 5.1 setup? Why did you set it to mix the LFE? Turn that off, too.
 
Pick either, "digital" or "analog" in NVMixer....

Try getting the newest forceware drivers... it has a new version of NVMixer that might help you.

Set the audio in Power DVD to match your setup.
 
First, set your speakers to either 6 channel or 5.1 in power dvd (I dont remember which exact setting it is).

Choose Analog output to send the signal to your speakers. Digital output is only used when sending the AC3 signal to an external dolby digital decoder or receiver using a single coax or optical cable.

Next you need to uncheck both Dolby Digital and Dolby surround Encoding when watching DVD. DVDs are already encoded.

Uncheck the create LFE option. This is normally used to send low frequency effect to your main speakers when the mains are large enough to handle low frequencies and there is no subwoofer in the system.
 
Alright, I installed the latest nForce drivers, and I got the latest mixer. I can tell a huge change in sound when I'm listening to my music, but on DVDs if I turn up the volume quite a bit I can hear music, but absolutely no voices when I set PowerDVD to run on 6 speakers.

I have "Encoding Options" set to none in the NVMixer and LFE is disabled.
 
On the DVD problem, I had this issue when my speakers were set to using their propietary 5.1 soundmixing, so make sure any of that is turned off. Did you click advanced options in 6 speaker mode and turn of Dolby Prologic? Try playing with the environment and output modes. Have you verified your center channel itself is operating?
 
Are you using an optical SPDIF connection or are you using something else? If you are using SPDIF, set the speaker setup to SPDIF in powerdvd.
 
If you are using Analog...then I don't think you are utilizing the DD5.1 option on soundstorm which is only available on the SPDIF anyway. Remember, Soundstorm is just a term that nVidia applied to motherboards which met certain nVidia specifications. Without the SPDIF you are just using the onboard Realtek codec, at least as far as I know.
