I work for Best Buy and figured I'd give you guys the inside scoop. We're now moding f*cking eMachine T6000s. Best Buy sells a windows kit which we will be installing for $30. I intend to screw up as many as possible. :D

are you serious? that is just sad

Haha, i can see the guys in BB now sitting behing the desks with their jigsaws and dremels hacking away at the things :D Ya know the whole window scene has gotten way out of hand when BB and other retail stores offer modding services....

30 dollars for installing a window?

lol

hrmm wholesale price for acrylic window is what... around 2 bux a piece?

damn best buy :p

this is getting out of hand. i think on my next case i'm not gonna have a window...i'll be different without one now! :p

Wow thats actually kinda true. Alot of people do have windows at the very least for case mods. But, on the other hand. Whenever new people come over my house and see my modded case they cant believe it. Some people are still amazed by mods.

I kinda wanted a window, and then i didnt want one. So I got an extra side panel and put a window in one. So now it all depends on the mood Im in. One week I have a window, the next week I don't. My girlfriend thinks Im crazy but as long as I'm happy she's happy.

Yah your right, I had a old premod case that was POS I got for free and when my Nephew saw it he thought it was the shi* so I gave it to him.

edit:

It had a window in it with 2 fan intakes on the window and 2 CCFL's .

i'm starting to get sort of happy that i didnt deface my beautifu lian li by window-ing it.

Why do so many people get mad that windows are so popular ? Its only because people started modding in the first place, that this happened. I think its because they feel that the normal average joe is invading their 'special nerd bubble' of modding that makes them feel like they belong to something. I love to mod, but shit, why get so defensive. True it is a bit lame that its become so commercialized but anytime someone says premod or best buy sells that now, so many people here get pissed. If nobody ever modded anything in the first place , you'd never have tinted windows, rims, stereos in your car etc.. It has just become normal practice to make your pc look attractive.

Maybe instead of bitching so much, go out and talk to someone, drink a beer, run a red light or something, shit.

ITS A COMPUTER! LOL.
(btw .. you'll know who I'm talking about when they respond to my post hah).

they are looking at a "top of the line" computer, complete with turbochargers and all that.

The problem here is not enitrely the popularity of it, but it's the equivlent of putting sketch-book doodles in an art museum. Sure, if someone wants a window, more power to them, but it makes people a little angry when they see that some retail store who makes millions upon millions a year is charging stupid people for things like this... It's like when you see an old man driving a top of the line sports car then driving 20 MPH under the speed limit... you know he doesn't give a crap about what the car can do, he just bought it because he's had nothing better to spend his money on. Another example is when you hear a good song overplayed on the radio. A year later, the band is ruined and nobody wants their stuff. It's a waste of something good.
If everyone has something, then suddenly your's doesn't seem as special.

Unfortionately Best Buy thinks you can. :(

Edit: This should be at all Best Buy stores, I work at the one in Superstition Springs.

personally, i dont really care. i like having a window in my case, so i'm going to have one. i dont have one to be different. i have one because i like it. ::gasp!:: someone did something because they like it and not to impress someone else??

seriously... i built my own system and put my time and money into it and im proud of it. i'm not pissed off that gateway and dell sell computers too.

I like drinking a jack and coke every now and again and i'll mix it myself. but am i pissed that jack daniels now sells premixed jack & coke? nope. and it doesnt mean im going to start using pepsi "to be different." or even more different: rc cola.

just because someone else is massproducing it, doesnt mean its not worth your time and effort and it doesnt mean you have to change what youre doing.

guess what... my case not only has a window, but blue leds and the drives are stealthed. call me trendy, but i love my case.

sometimes, you just have to let it go and realize that in corporate america, anyone will do anything for money. if someone gave me 30 bucks and said "put a window in my case," i'd do it. and the thing is, there's people who'll offer that money.

it's like replacing the alternator on your car. yeah, you could buy it yourself and install it yourself and save a ton of money, but if you aren't great with mechanics, why not pay someone else to do it for you?

Anyone these days can have a window in their case....the main way to one up them is to do it tastefully and with quality...neither of which Best Buy can really guarantee.

Bestbuy sucks...
Im gonna call all oem computers with windows rice comps :D

This is one of those things I am sure will blow over after a while. It is a fad. All fads pass away after a while.

I think this just challenges many of us to do better more innovative work... So we have to work harder to impress and feel different. So what. It's probably good for us.

And as far as BB charging money to put in a window... so what. We can all laugh when we go into BB to buy that new game, and see someone picking up their HP with a window.

wouldent this void any warantees including BB's?

something tells me that applying powertools to your case dosent fall under the "opened it to upgrade/clean etc" catagory

Some how I think they might say something like this...

"Blah Blah Blah... it doesn't void the warranty because the installation was performed by a 'professional' employed by BB"

But on a more serious note... this doesn't seem right to me. This just doesn't sound like something a corporation would want to delve into. But hey corporations can go to some extremes for that extra buck.

Besides... who is gonna train those guys?

I agree with what was said earlier. Buying a premodded case with a generic window *either a square one or the "x" window pattern* is fine if your looking to say "Look, I have a window!". But, if you wish to do it yourself, you can do a stock window look, or do a pattern, or get crazy with it. Point is, you did it yourself. In the end, you brush off the metal crumbs, stand back and think "Hell, I did that!" and be proud. My first window was with a kit, and I was proud as hell when I did it. Next one I did was for a case I did in camo colors, and I used military spec bolts to hold the window in. Honestly, I cant say I like one over the other simply because I put my time into them. The next window I I have other idea's on how Im going to do it, and Im sure I'll be proud of it as well.

Also, I agree, all premodded cases should now be referred to as rice comps! hehe

Me too.. I like it shiny and sleek, a window would just detract from it. I've seen a couple Lian-Lis that look great with really well done windows, but those are pretty uncommon.

Yea thats a very good point. It doesnt seem as special if a crap ass company sells something to millions of people a year and they dont know shit about a computer. When I look through my window I say damn! I built all that without even having a realy job! I get reall happy with the time I put in it and now some lamer will get one and not no wtf anything inside it is or does. But then again, we are the people who start it. The outcasts and nerds. Were the ones that change the world. And we did.

who wants to place bets on when the first of theese comps go up in smoke from metal shavings shorting them out.

actually i saw one of them and it looked decent actually.. i know i'm gonna get flamed soon but yea.. their cable management sucks but emachine is one of the few companies that use name brand parts... i remember seeing a MSI 8x mobo in there, and the mod job was actually decent... price was great also $1000 for 3200+ amd 64bit 120gb 7200 8mb cache hdd, burner and dvd, ati 9600 128mb can't think wut else but emachine i think is the best company out there (compared to HP compaq and IBM)
