I've got a Sapphire x800XT and whenever the fan kicks on it doesn't sound 'smooth'. It sounds like it's unbalanced or possibly going bad? Anybody else have this problem? :confused:

I want to replace it with something better so if I could get some opinions and pointed in the right direction I will be very thankful. :cool:
 
I would take the card out and spin the fan with your finger. If one of the blades is scraping something then you'll know. You'll also know if the motor is going bad if it's hard to spin (should be super fluid). I don't know about vidoe cards, but regular fans can be opened up to put in oil. I doubt this works with video card fans though.

Could just be bad bearings in the fan. If it's making rubbing/grinding sounds, then RMA it.
 
I think he wants air but its just a guess.
Those new Zalman VGA coolers are good and will fit your card. They are known for being very very quiet. Also their are the Artic Ati Silencers you would need the ATI Silencer 4 and I have one of those beasts on my X800Pro its quieter than a case fan and cooler than heck.
 
What about those big dual heatpipe coolers?

Also, On the sapphire sight, in the pics section it looks like they are using that zalman fan+HS on all there high end cards, pretty interesting.
 
Yes, i'm looking for air cooling. I'd buy a new fan before I RMA'd it, I'd rather part with $50 or so rather than parting with my card to be fixed. :)
 
If so then get the dual heatpipe Zalman cooler, with the fan, Ive heard nothing but good aboot it,
