Doesn't Boot

My computer was unhooked for about 36 hours and when I hooked it back up and turned it on it would not boot properly.

First, it would only get to the BIOS screen and sit there until I would power off (max: 5 minutes). I noticed the mouse and the keyboard did not get power but a USB mic did. I then turned the PC off for about 10 minutes and tried again and I was able to get into windows flawlessly. I restarted and now I don't even get the BIOS screen. I get to screen that has a few lines of text on it. The top line or two mentions the BIOS and the bottom portion of it makes note that it cannot detect a mouse and keyboard. I have tried several different USB plugs. I have also reset the CMOS twice and that has no affect.


I'm leaning towards it being a motherboard issue but i'm not positive. The motherboard is a DFI Blood Iron.

Any ideas?

Yep. Sounds like a dying or dead PSU. Just had that problem. Computer would hang at the Asus Logo screen and wouldn't detect the USB keyboard. Replaced the PSU and everything is fine

What is your system specs?

Try unhooking everything except the RAM, CPU, and GPU. IF it starts to boot then wait for the no keyboard error. After that plug the K/B in and boot again the HDD plugged in.

My bet is dead PSU

+1 for the PSU. I had a similar issue and reducing the load on the PSU increased stability (used onboard video instead of PCIe). Tossed in a backup PSU, everything was back to normal.

Just got a chance to post an update. It was a RAM stick...sorta. None of them were broken but I reseated them and it's all good.
