When burning discs of songs all i get is garbage. i hear the songs but there tons of static along with it. I have a plextor 48A burner that i'm using. I've tried to burn via - itunes, win xp media player, and nero and it all sounds like garbage..... and all data is unreadable.

i updated the firmware, but it's still doing this? can anyone help me out?

Clean the drive with a drive cleaner (costs about 10 bucks). That's what I would do first, if that doesn't work, try another brand of CDs.

Change the media you are using. Get some TY or Maxell discs, and reduce your burning speeds.

okay -

i've tried new media and cleaned my drive with an optical cleaner disc, and it's still making unreadable data discs and music cd's with static on it. Any other ideas guys and gals? Is my drive shot?

Get rid of it. Try another drive, make sure IDE drivers and cables are proper too.

it reads discs perfectly fine. no skipping, miscues or anything. The only issue is when burning. Its a plextor 48A. I"m just very irritated.
