Does VSR utilize CrossfireX? If it does, then will it use the second GPU to assist with the VSR load if the game doesn't support CrossfireX? Weird question. Just was wondering as the R9 290's are kinda cheap.

cageymaru, I'm going to describe the situation as I think you're inquiring, and tell me if I'm reading you right. I have a 1920x1200 monitor, a pair of 290's and I'm playing a game that doesn't support Crossfire. 1920x1200 is 2,304,000 pixels, 2560x1600 is 4,096,000 pixels. You're wondering if, instead of doing actual Crossfire, VSR just leverages the power of the 2nd card to crunch those extra 1,792,000 pixels? Nope, doesn't work that way. What VSR basically does is open up resolution options beyond what your display is actually capable of, you can actually pick them for your Windows desktop too, not just in games(I just confirmed this, my 290X can now pick a desktop resolution up to 2560x1600, instead of the old max of 1920x1200). What actually happens in my case is my card renders the scene at 2560x1600, just like it would if my monitor actually supported that resolution. The image is then passed to the scaler hardware, which resizes it down to my monitor's native 1920x1200, just as it would scale up if I had selected a lower resolution like 1680x1050. The theory being, 2560x1600 is 1.78x as many pixels as 1920x1200, so the resulting image will be almost as good as if you'd applied 2x super-sample anti-aliasing. And the performance should be significantly faster than 2xSSAA, since the scaler hardware works faster than the portion of the GPU pipeline that would be doing the SSAA calculations. But the important part with regards to your question, as far as the GPU rendering is concerned, the "3D" part of the chip just thinks it's rendering to a higher-res screen, so all the normal rules for Crossfire etc. apply.

DAI is probobly a bad example, as it supports crossfire natively.
