Like say Geforce 4 MX vs 6800GT in windows with exact same system specs other then the video card. This is for windows performance not game performance.

Will the one with 6800GT be faster? I thought not, but this EE major was trying to convince me otherwise.

You mean 2d? speed won't be a factor but 2d image quality will be....I believe ATI cards have a slight advantage in this department.

i regularly use a 9200 to test some low end functionality of atitool .. i have almost no time for gaming and spend most of my time in 2d windows developing stuff so it happens that i use the 9200 for a few days instead of the x800 since there is no difference for me in windows (even at 1600x1200, 32bit)

you might see differences when it comes to analog signal output quality and performance when playing videos .. everything else should be the same

The only difference you might see is when playing video's. If your card doesn't have enough ram for the desktop resolution and video that is buffered when you play videos, you might see some stuttering or dropped frames in the movie. But this was more of a problem with 8mb video cards and sometimes 16mb video cards. I had this happen on my laptop with 8mb of video memory. I couldn't run at 1024x768 at 24bit color and have any smooth video playback. Dropping the color to 16bits or the resolution to 800x600 was the only way for me to get rid of the stuttering.
