I'm new at this high-performance computing stuff, so I'm not sure if what's happening here is right. Here are the details of what I have and I'd like to know what's normal or wrong or what.

Mobo: MSI KT4V (MS-6712)
CPU: AMD Thunderbird 1.1 Ghz (not OCed)
Case: Antec 1050B SOHO server
Fans: 2x 80mm front, 1x 80mm GPU, 1x92mm CPU, 1x120mm rear

All of the case fans are Antec, and everything except the big 120 in the back are aimed for intake.

The CPU cooler is a ThermalTake, not sure the model or anything, it was the one recommended by the guy at Microcenter for a Socket A.

Here's what's going on: The cpu temp is about 50 degrees Celcius at idle, and the CPU fan turns about 300 more RPM with the door closed than open, but the temp doesn't change. I would like to know if this is normal, or if I should change some things around.

Anyone have any input? I know this system is kind of old, but I would rather screw up something I won't cry over than throw down a bunch of cash and break it.

When the fans spin faster that usually means slightly negative air pressure in the case which is fine if you don't care about dust accumulation. Positive pressure is more useful when filters are in use for the intake fans so that the filters aren't bypassed by negative pressure drawing air through the nooks and crannies.

well I'm not terribly concerned about dust. The case does come with a filter in the front for the intake fans... if I turn down the 120 in the back will it help the pressure situation any? I think I have it turned to high right now...

I'm more concerned about bringing the temperature down. I would like to learn how certain changes affect the system but I don't even know where to start. I'm thinking the next upgrade I will do is to go to a Sempron processor because this mobo will support it if I flash the bios.

I also need to get a new HDD...
