Does this sound like a PSU problem?

I recently purchased a Corsair 620HX. I went ahead and made all of the connections to my computer and hooked it up to a power source. Everything seemed fine until I tried to turn my computer on. All the lights flashed for a split second and then immediately turned off. I went out and bought a PSU tester and when I connect the 24Pin ATX connector, it does the exact same thing. It flashes blue for a second and then turns off. I tried this with a much older computer and the tester is indeed working correctly. Anyone have any idea as to why this would happen?

Man, I hope nothing happened to all my other components.

That definitely sounds like the power supply to me. The only thing I would do if you havent done it yet would be to remove everything possible from the power supply and then try the tester. You probably already did that though. You could always try the power supply in another machine.

Which PSU tester did you buy, and when you plug it in, is it plugged into anything else at all?

If you short the black & green wires on the main ATX connector, does the PSU turn on and stay on?

This Power Tester

I did disconnect everything and test the power supply all by itself. I'll go ahead and try shorting out those wires when I get back home from dinner. Already packed everything up though, but I'd like to see what happens.

A lot of newer PSU's requre a minimum load to run and if they don't have one they do exactly what you are seeing. I no longer have the Corsair I tested and I don't remember if it does have a minimum loading requirement. So, try connecting a few fans and few drives and give it a whirl. On some units liek the Toughpower 1200w or the Enermax DXX's that isn't even enough as they require a pretty hefty minimum load on a number of rails.

Also, try a different outlet and different a couple of surge protectors. I had PSU problems over a couple of years. I thought I ruined a couple of mobos and PSUs. Turned out it was a bad outlet.

I just checked online on the corsair forums and someone else's PSU was exhibiting the same abnormal behavior as mine. I tried using the PSU tester with my modular cables in place (4 case fans, optical drive, HDD) and with them disconnected. I also tried different wall outlets around my home and got the same result. The orange LED remains lit on the motherboard, but turning on the computer leads to it powering on and then off in probably half a second. I get a flicker from my LED case fans and the fans turn perhaps a one-quarter of a rotation.

sounds like power supply , when you connect the tester usually with most you plug the motherboard power plug into the tester so if that is what you used then it has to be the psu nothing else would be connected. Not sure what type of tester your using and how the hookup is but i would say its a really good chance its a power issue.

This sounds like a bad PSU. Why don't you go ahead and RMA it, either through us at our website or you can also try to do it through the reseller.

Regardless, sounds like you've got a bad unit there.

I got a Corsair 620 less than a month ago. I put it into my K8WE rig. It worked fine for several days then one day when turning it on, it would power up, spin fans and then shut down after one second.

I tried putting in my old Silverstone Zeus 650 that the Corsair replaced and the same thing happened with it.

Now get this, I tried turning on another machine with a 400 watt(or maybe 430) in a different part of the house and now it doesn't start either. And it was working fine before.

This is very weird for me. I really don't think it's the power supply nor do I think it's the motherboard. Isn't odd for 2 motherboards in 2 different rooms to go out at the same time?

What do you guys think?
