Does this sound good?

First off, I plan on upgrading my machine. Mainly for web browsing and light gaming and video chat and basic stuff.

So here is the list for you to critic:

5000+ X2
Asus M2N-SLI
Antec 300
Corsair HX620W PSU
Windows Vista Home premium 64-bit

I plan on reusing my two hard drives, optical drive, and my 8500 gt and I'm not sure on which cooler to get yet.

Any reason you have gone AMD?
How about a budget?
Your post gives little info.

Not really sure why I'm going AMD again, could be that I have amd in my current rig and it's never failed me. I am open to intel though. And my grandfather will probably be paying for it as a Christmas gift.

What's your budget?
Which games/programs are you going to be using?
Which monitor/resolution are you using?
What does the rest of your build looks like (including the parts you're reusing)?

While AMD is good for budget builds (<$300), in most (other) cases, an Intel platform offers you better performance.

Not sure of my budget. Like to keep it in the 500-600 range.
I'll be using mainly word, excel, photoshop, dreamweaver. And playing portal, grid, etc.
currently using 1280x1024 with my 17 inch display.
Parts I'm reusing from my current machine are:
500gb Seagate
160gb Seagate
8500gt
and the current one gig stick I have at the moment.

Here's a more power Intel-based build for you. The only parts I didn't include were those you were going to reuse.

$50 - Antec Three Hundred (free shipping)
$7 - Two Yate Loon D12SL-12 120mm case fans (@ $3.60 each; for Three Hundred)
$70 - Antec Earthwatts 650W PSU
$84 - MSI P43 Neo3-F ($10 mail-in rebate)
$120 - Intel Core 2 Duo E7200
$67 - G.Skill 2x2GB DDR2 800 dual channel kit
$26 - Samsung SH-S223F SATA DVD burner
$100 - Vista Home Premium 64-bit OEM
=====
$524 - Subtotal (not including shipping, taxes, or rebates)

If the 1GB RAM stick you have is DDR RAM (compared to DDR2 RAM), you may be better off selling it.

Did some more research. Deciding to stay amd for price reasons.

So here's the new config.

Case:Lian Li PC-7b Plus $110
CPU: AMD Phenom X4 9550 $167.90
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H
PSU: Antec Neo HE 500W PSU w/sleeving black, black molex connecters(from performance-pcs.com) $139.95
RAM: OCZ PC2-5400 1GB DDR2-667 $29.99
Heat sink: Xigmatek HDT-S1283 $37.99
Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster Audigy $31.62
GPU: PNY VERTO 8500GT 512mb(reusing)
500gb+160gb Seagate(500gb-media drive 160gb-system drive)

Cable management items
Zip tie mount X50 $6.50
4 inch zip ties-black(20 in each pack) 4 packs $9.96

Comes to $503.92 Without shipping and handling and taxes. I can't order of newegg because they don't ship to canada. So Most of the parts will be ordered from ncix. The case and PSU will be ordered from performance-pcs.com. And a few things for cable management will be ordered from performance-pcs.com.

I'm reusing my current motherboard. And yes, it does support X4.

My mistake... I didn't know that you were ordering from Canada, nor did I know that your motherboard could currently support the AM2/AM2+ processors.

However, I don't fully understand why you stick with AMD "for price reasons" and then go with a 500 watt modular power supply (with custom sleeving) when you could get a powerful, quality power supply like the Corsair TX650 for $30 CAD less.

agreed.

Plus, if you're looking for the most bang for your buck, the Q6600 will walk all over the X4, especially when overclocked

Okay, I'm going to stick with the E7200.

Antec 300?

E7200
Patriot Extreme Performance 4GB 2X2GB PC2-6400
Gigabyte EP45-DS3L
8500gt
500gb+160gb hdd
Xigmatek HDT-S1283
Corsair TX650W
Windows vista home premium 64 bit.

Might go with a different case and try watercooling the cpu. Unless the antec 300 will have room for water cooling.

And might use this if wcing. http://www.ncix.com/products/index....120-COMPACT&manufacture=Swiftech&promoid=1008

NZXT Hush

Gigabyte EP45-DS3L
Intel Core 2 Duo E7200
Xigmatek HDT-S1283
Pioneer DVR-216DBK
Crucial Rendition 1GB 1X1GB PC2-5300
Corsair TX650W
nGear SATA Serial ATA Hard Drive Data Cable 24 Inch 7 Pin W/ Locking Connectors X4
Saitek Eclipse Keyboard Black USB W/ 104 Silver Key & Blue LED Key Illumination

Going to install the copy of XP home I have.

Go with the Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3L instead (if it's available). It has most of the same features of the EP45-DS3L for less.

The E7200 is a good overclocker, so I recommend getting a 2GB set of DDR2 800 (aka PC2-6400) RAM. If you aren't going to overclock, you could omit the HDT-S1283 (but if you're sticking with that CPU cooler, pick up the ACK-I7751 or ACK-I7753 retention bracket to make mounting the HDT-S1283 easier).

The retail motherboard comes with at least two SATA cables (I believe that it comes with four), but you may want to keep at least one of the 24 inch SATA cables for the DVD burner.

Make sure you have at least one 120mm case fan for the front of the case and one 120mm fan for the rear. If you need additional fans, pick up some Yate Loons or Scythe Slipstreams.

Okay, terms have changed. Spoke to my grandpa on the phone,he doesn't want to spend too much, because he wants to buy my sister a laptop for college, which is more important because I have a laptop from my mom for school and such.

So I am going to stick with amd for the time being to reuse my motherboard.

Xigmatek HDT-S1283

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+
-believe me, if I he would be willing to spend more, I would switch to intel.(Might choose the 9550 if it would be faster than the 5200+)

Antec 300

CM 120mm fans for intake

Corsair HX620W CMPSU-620HX ATX Triple 12V 50A 24PIN ATX Modular Power Supply 120MM Fan 2X PCI-E
-choosing modular for better cable management and if I want to upgrade again in the future.
