Im contemplating swapping out the fan on the stock A64 cooler with a YSTech TMD fan I have laying around. It looks like it'll fit perfectly. Does this sound like a good idea?
 
The only way to find out is to try, if it gets to hot then put back the original. Use MBM5 (motherboard monitor @ majorgeeks.com) or BIOS temps to test. I recommend MBM5 though.
 
The TMD fans usually work pretty well b/c they don't have the large deadspot that most fans have and they can push out a reasonable amount of pressure... if the fan is the high rpm model I'm thinking about. I haven't seen the stock AMD fan, but I would imagine that if it's anything like Intel's, anything would be better. ;)

Alternatively, you could try lapping the stock HS for better temps... that seems to work well for most people.

Depends..... I haven't gotten around to lapping my HS yet and I've owned it for several months.

Before you say anything about me not having a stock HS though, I'll say that the slk-948 does have a fairly good finish, but it does need a good lapping..... it has a rough surface and some scratches, I just haven't gotten up enough enthusiasm to take my computer apart again. After taking it apart a few dozen times, you start to avoid doing mods that require you to remove stuff :D
 
yea i hear you on that, specially those HS taht require you to screw them onto the board and underneath it. I hate them
 
Got slightly better temps with the TMD fan, so I guess its staying. I havent gotten around to lapping the heatsink yet, but I will pretty soon. The TMD fan is the high RPM model (5600 rpm).
