Ok in a nut shell I am sure I have reached the FSB limits of my ASUS P5Q and that limit is 470mhz

CPU- Q9550 @4.0ghz (470x8.5)

Goal is 4.5ghz which would be 529x8.5 with my setup.

If I got a Q9660 with its unlocked multiplier should I be able to hit 4.5ghz with 450x10 since 450FSB is 20mhz under my 470mhz wall? or will I be introducing other factors with the new chip with its higher multiplier?
 
Well just because I hate posts with zero replies in this forum I am going to tell you what you already know.

In theory your are correct. You have validated the board and memory at 470MHz FSB.

The cpu internally quad pumps the fsb clock (the point being that is it not a motherboard component that sets cpu clock) to get the effective cpu speed so your logic holds.

But I could go on about how every cpu is slightly different in its electrical characteristics (its why specs have +/- max/min tolerances ) impedances, blah blah. Just changing the cpu will affect the socket and its contact pressure on the cpu pads - will it matter ? /shrug probally not but you get my point.

Yes if you get lucky and get a "good" cpu it should go higher. To 4.5 ? Only God knows.

Be aware God does not like show offs.
