Does the X-Fi have optical out?

I would prefer and optical out for my Ht receiver. I am thinking of getting a fragbox too and it looks like if there is an optical out it's from that front mounted box which looks like the size of a dvd player? would that work or not?
 
I'm fairly sure that the only optical out you will get with the X-Fi is in the form of the front drive bay thing that comes with all the models except for the base one. I consider that to be a huge pain in the arse, having to run your cable from the front of the computer. Stupid idea, Creative!

LOL, I cant recall how many posts Ive seen in the old days of how stupid CL was for not giving ppla way to plug in headphones and such from the front, now that they have done that ppl say their stupid because they didnt shove 20 connectors onto the back of the card. Maybe if enough ppl contacted CL they might make some sort plate with connectors for those that don't wish to use a drive bay, sort of like the deal that came with my older cards. Personally I really like the front bay as it puts everything in my reach and no more crawling behind my computer if I wanna switch to say headphones
 
Well, I don't think most people want freakin optical and rca plugs hanging off the front of their computer 24/7. Plugging headphones in is a hell of a lot different than permanent audio connections. I think that drive bay is about freakin stupid. Even if I did want wires hanging off the front of my case I couldn't use it because of the BIG METAL DOOR on my case. My solution is to get a $3 y-connector from radio shack and hook speakers and headphones up to the same plug, wow, I'm just a freakin genius aren't I. Anyone want to buy an x-fi drive bay thingamabob?

Not really, unless your Speakers pwr button is close how do you mute the speakers when you want to use just your headphones. I'm not saying its a must have thing I just do recall at one time there were lots of complaints about accessability of connectors or that they were too close together which the drive does solve. I did say they could maybe offer a simpler version of connectors on a backplate that would take an unused card slot (sorry for not being clearer) like came with my SBLive I think it was. Then those who want something in back have it. I'll probably rarely use some of the connectors myself unless I decide to drag my old Tivo DTV box into my office and that would only be temp so plugging in from the front is definitly handier for me.
 
It's a Kenwood reciever, I turn the power off. I think an add on for a pci slot with optical/rca connectors would be ideal but I'm sure some people would have problems with that. I just can't imagine having fiber cables hanging off the front of my pc. Even worse, RCAs.

Why would you hang RCA cables off the front? Do have a way to turn off your Headphones? I do agree though, optical out on the rear of the computer would be better.

You would hang rcas off the front because that's where the AUX in is located, I shouldn't have mentioned that I guess since the AUX in really doesn't matter for most people. And the headphones have in-line volume so I guess you could turn them down all the way if you really wanted to, I don't usually mess with that though.

Hey I wasn't trying to be a smart ass or anything, I just asked. I've never had RCAs connected to my PCs though I do use the 1/8" to RCA for 5.1 Analog. I'd love a front bay for my MICs and Bass though.

My Main Headphones doesn't have a Volume control and the other one with is rarely used.
The point was that it does interfer with normal operation if left on all the time. I do use a splitter like this one. . I have one for my fronts going to the receiver and tucked in with the other wires. Then the second on is routed to the front of the computer for Headphone. I unplug the Headphone when I use my receiver or turn off the receiver when I use the headphones. I never leave both on or connected. I also have another for MIC/Digital on the FlexiJack but I'll use a MIC/Speaker switch for this. The X-Fi drive bay is a must for more than just basic use. I never worried about this with the Audigy 2 ZS.

yes.. pain in the arsh.. regular zs's dont even have a freaking ptical connector that I want.. the only complaint that I have against creative.. otherwise great product :p
 
The flexi jack in the back is a coax is it not???? I agree its not optical, but may give digital output where the others cannot, correct???? :D Why not just put the drive bay deal on the floor behind your case where no one can see it. Or fashion a small metal box to set the thing in??? you would then relieve yourself of the anxiety of the front of the case looking cluttered. just a suggestion.....maybe we could start a small business making "fatality" small red boxes to put the drive bay thing in. I would give him 3 cents for every box I sold. HAR! ;)
 
I would but I didn't pay the extra couple hundred box for the platinum edition :rolleyes:
