Does the MOBO screw material matter?

Ok just started building my computer and realized my ABIT IP35V didn't include screws for the stand-offs. The case I got, a Coolermaster 690, has screws (above the hard drives where the 5 1/4 CD-ROMS should be) that fit perfectly. My question is whether the actual material of the screws matter... to prevent shorts or what ever. The only other option is to screw the rest of the stand-offs into the first ones... which doesn't seem like the best solution. Input is welcomed! Thank you.

anyones it doesn't mean shit, the screws are only there to hold it in place.
 
There is a role for the motherboard screws in grounding (though it will certainly work without grounding, they are designed to take the earth ground) so there should really be a conductive path from the metal around the holes to the chassis.

Glad someone else caught that. Yes you should screw in every grounding pad to the chassis. This provides a more electrically stable platform.

The material that the screws are composed of don't matter to much. Any of the metalic screws provide enough of a connection. I dont really see an issue if they are brass, stainless, or whatever. They all conduct really, so I wouldn't worry.

Agreed. I'm not an EE or any kind of expert but I'm pretty sure the mobo is grounded through the PSU. Standoffs are used to prevent it from grounding to the case. Nylon screws will work the same as brass.
 
Motherboards don't include screws. The case provides them. So the screws on your CM-690 were designed to be used on the motherboard, so of course you can use them.

Thats also why they fit perfectly with the standoffs, as they are designed to fit.
 
The motherboard doesn't need to ground to the chassis to function, because it does indeed ground via the PSU - and the standoffs certainly prevent the motherboard accidentally grounding to the backplate from trailing solder. However, the motherboard is designed to ground to the chassis at specific points - that's why the holes are metallised. The chassis ground is an additional safety feature and may help with EMI (not so sure about that one).

It will certainly work without a chassis ground and probably won't cause any problems, but that's not how it was designed.

While this may be a slightly off topic question, I figured it was close enough.

I jsut got my new case and motherboard in, however I did not get any of the nylon washers to go with my stand offs and such. In my old computer, I used plastic clip screw type deals to hold my motherboard in. I have looked at a few build guides, and they mention nothing of putting washers between the motherboard and standoffs. I know it may be a silly question that I should konw the answer to, but I'd like to make sure thats its ok before I put anything in and fry my new computer..

Alright thanks. I figured it would be fine, but I'd much rather sound like a noob on some online forum than ruin a new piece of hardware :)
