Ive heard that the FX57 needs registered RAM to run. Is this true? Registered RAM runs slower correct?

Nein, I thought only the 940 socket procs needed registered ram.

Nope. The Socket 939 Athlon64 FX-57 is designed for unbuffered non-ECC memory. That means that you can use the same memory as any other Athlon64 system.

By the way, only the Socket 940 processors (such as the early FX-51 and most Opterons) require registered memory. The Opterons also support ECC memory.

if you want to get technical, i'm pretty sure all a64's support ecc. most motherboards just don't have the option for it :D

but yes, the FX-57 uses normal unbuffered ram. also, the performance difference between the two is like 1-2% at most. nothing noticable, outside of your wallet :D
