Does Temporal AA hurt FPS for LCDs?

well, I was thinking of getting an LCD, and I stopped myself a few seconds ago. I realize that Temporal AA is a sweet thing, and the LCD im getting has a 60Hz refresh rate at 1280x1024 (its native res) and I also heard that Temporal AA puts Vertical Sync on, and since ATi set it so it turns off Temp AA when the FPS is below 60, am I screwed of using Temporal AA? or is there some way around this?

60hz for refresh rate is not recommended, 72+hz is recommended... pay another 50 or 100 bucks and get a good monitor that will reduce eye strain. regardless of TAA

you obviously have no idea that it does not matter if it is 60Hz or 4454365Hz, on an LCD, you will not notice the difference, it doesnt reduce eye strain or anything.

CRTs on the other hand...
 
you're right about one thing I dont know much about LCD's, I thought hz is hz, you think otherwise? but then why would eyestrain not be reduced with a certain kind of monitor when fps is fps... it doesn't make much sense to me, gimme links stating otherwise.

I don't have a link, but I can tell you, it doesnt matter. I have seen a CRT at 60Hz, and then an LCD at 60Hz doing the exact same thing, and believe me, the LCD was much better for flicker, because there was none
 
There is no flicker on LCDs, because there isn't an electron gun constantly having to redraw the screen. The pixels are "always on" and don't need to be refreshed in the way CRTs need to be. Besides, most LCD native resolutions don't support anything higher than 60 Hz; setting it to anything higher does nothing.
 
You can just set the TAA FPS threshold lower if you want to keep it enabled. With a LCD, the negative effect of TAA is much less noticeable.

Add a string value TemporalAAFrameThreshold, set it to whatever you want the threshold to be. 0 works fine.

FYI, the adverse side-effect of V-Sync (FPS dividing) can be nullified by using a triple buffer (can be forced for OpenGL in ATI's CP, for D3D games some have options or hacks for it). This can increase performance in some circumstances, but note that it does take up a little bit more of video memory (generally the amount of space taken up by one frame).

LCD's are awesome IMO...i have the samsung 173P and ill never go back to a CRT again.
LCD's have some major advantages over crt's.
1) very very light
2) screen is much brighter
3) uses less real estate on desktop
4) wont hurt your eyes after extended periods of use
5) refresh is at par with CRT's

disadvantages
1) expensive
2) cheap LCD's dont have fast enough refresh rate for games
3) screens are easily scratched/broken
4) color isnt "true" color
