Does Seagate's 2-platter system have an advantage?

I can afford up to a 250gb drive, but I've heard good things about seagate drives, and they only go up to 200gb due to the two-platter system their drives use. What exactly is the advantage of having only two platters?

Slightly less heat, power consumption, noise, and cost. Once you see a drive you like, check the manufacturer's specs. Hitachi, for instance, will use anywhere from 1 to 3 platters depending on the size of the drive. The third stores more data but requires a larger arm assembly with more heads and uses a bit more juice to spin up the disks and move the beefier head around. We're talking about fractions of an amp here, and maybe a couple Watts of heat between 2 and 3 platters. The real savings is in Seagate's bottom line, which they may or may not pass on to you.
