Does running RAM async to CPU clock matter on A64?

I'm considering getting an A8N-SLi / Venice based system this summer as a new gaming rig since Venice has done so well overclocking. However, in terms of RAM, I'm not sure of my purchase. Does the issue of running RAM synchronously to the CPU external clock matter as it did on the AXP? (currently running a NF7-S / Mobile Barton setup, so I'm well aware of the huge performance hit when running async.) If running RAM asynchronously to the CPU external clock doesn't entail the performance hit it did on K7 systems, I think I might go for 2GB of DDR400 as opposed to 1GB of a higher frequency (Maybe DDR500 if that's compatible?) Of course running higher bandwidth RAM will only help, but I'm speculating that 2GB of lower bandwidth/tighter timed RAM will be better than 1GB of higher bandwidth/looser timed RAM. Is this correct? Thanks for any advice :)

On that note, are there any particular sticks/make of RAM you'd suggest for OC purposes (OCZ over Corsair or whatever?)
 
while there is some slight performance hit, the memory controller on the Athlon 64 is integrated into the CPU die, so it is minimal, more important is using good RAM that can use a 1T command rate as a 2T command rate is what's going to hurt your performance.
