Does running 4 sticks limit OC potential compared to 2?

I'm moving from a 6600k to an 8700k and am wondering if I should do anything with the memory to improve the upgrade. I've been using 4x4GB of GSkill 3000. Besides limiting expansion on the 100/300 series platform, would using 4 sticks also affect stability in overclocking situations? Also, is there a need yet for more than 16GB for just gaming?

NXZT CAM software shows I average 7.4-10.8GB during gaming. If I'm multitasking/just having a lot of stuff running I hit 18-22GB.

For the exact same modules , ie doubling the memory size, yes for sure it will limit the overclock.
For modules with half the amount of memory each so you end up with the same amount of memory, maybe you can get a better result depending on the chips used. And you may need a decent motherboard that has more layers.

I'm running Corsair LPX 3000MHz CL15 4x4GB at 3733MHz CL17.
It took a good motherboard to even get them to run at stock speed.
Before I got a Maximus VIII motherboard they wouldnt even run at 2800MHz fully stable.

Games dont need more than 16GB yet.
