Have a "old" GTX 260 216 that I want to use for physx once my new GTX 470 arrives. Problem is I cannot give it more than 1x PCI-E 1.0. Will this ruin it?

I think NVIDIA recommends at least a slot with 4x bandwidth for PhysX.
 
I saw somewhere that intense Physx uses ~13% of a 260. Now let's do some simple math:
13% of 16 = 2.08. PCIe 1.0 is 1/2 or 1/3 the bandwith, so the best option for a 1.0 would be an x4 or x8 slot at the least.

That doesn't sound right. Maybe in an overall usage but when you really need the horsepower during heavy Physx moments it would seem you would want all the horsepower possible to carry you through it without decreasing your minimum FPS.
 
On a side note, how can you be limited to x1? Are you sawing off the end of and x1 slot to fit the card?

the PCIE controler (northbridge chip) has a limited number of 'lanes' or channels that it can run. these channels are basically put into a "pool" and on-board devices take a certain amount from that "pool" as necessary. if you have 1 primary graphics card, it will take 16 from the pool. add another, and it takes another 16 if available; or it divides up what is available and switches both cards to 8x each. some motherboard features take up an available lane from the pool too, like onboard audio or RAID or LAN or USB.

just because you have 4 full length card slots on a board doesnt mean you have the switching fabric to run them all at the same time.
