Does nVidia make a DVI - component converter for a 6600?

No. Component out is provided by the 9 pin video out port. If you don't have one, you're out of luck.

Well, interestingly enough, I have the nine pin, and the mystery is solved.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814127191

That's my card. And I Didn't get the approriate converter cord. I got a regular S-Video/Composite, and not the one I was supposed to get. HP screwed me with an OEM.

Now I'm debating who to call and bitch. In all likelyhood I'll call everyone and get free stuff x3

THAT SAID, does anyone know if I can buy a 9 pin adapter online that supports component, I've not seen one on newegg.

I'm on the phone with HP now. Been on the phone for 30 minutes.

The lady at HP is retarded, since she's Indian and outsourced and has no idea what she's doing.

After 25 minutes of talking in circles, I get her to look up my card in the HP database and she fully admits it says HDTV and I tell her I'm looking at a picture of the cable that they didn't ship me, and she finally gives me the number to the parts store. Waste of half an hour of my life.

I'm on hold with the parts store, but IT IS RUN BY REAL AMERICANS! YEAH!

The real Americans directed me back to India, and the guy just said he'd ship out the cable. However, I have a suspicion that after all of this I'll get another regular S-Video/composite cable. At which time I will fly to India and go psycho on the HP Customer Support building.

Hour and a half on the phone and I have no doubt this will not work out in the end.

Good luck, I would also contact MSI and ask them about the cable just in case HP fucks up and sends another svideo cable.

Indeed. I did call MSI, but I had to leave a message.

Literally RIGHT after hanging up on Hadji at HP, I get a call from MSI. For 15 bucks I buy the cable directly from him and they don't gurantee that it will work with an OEM card. However, it looks JUST LIKE the regular MSI 6600 that supports HD, and the lady at HP, retarded as she was did confirm the website said it had HD/Composite/S-Video TV out.

The HP guy who said he was shipping my cable, after I SPECIFICALLY said "Component, right?" to which he replied "Correct." gave me the claim number. The website finally lists it, and guess what? Composite cable. Assholes.

I figure I can call HP, demand to speak to a supervisor, and demand they reimburse my purchase of the appropriate cable since the HP guy just plain lied to me. No two ways to say it.

That all said, do you think there's any chance an OEM 6600 that looks just like a regular MSI card with the same cosmetic features and ports would most likely be the exact same hardware, no strange blocks on HD? I mean, the nView settings support it, that much is sure.

I think as long as it has the nine pin DIN connector you'd be fine then again I'm not too sure but I'm sure enough to buy the cable myself if I was in your situation.

Well, it's a matter of the resolutions working moreso than the component being detected. nView has options for TV out at 1080i, so I can safely assume the card supports it. Or at least the software.

I think it will all end up okay. I just want to figure out how I can get the most cash out of this situation. At the very least I can eBay the ATi DVI converter, and the two HP 9 pin to S-Video/Composite cords.

MSI called me back and I just put an order in for the cord, 15 bucks with FedEx shipping. Assuming it works, I will call back HP and demand a supervisor, then relay that over the course of 3 phone calls, HP tech support has told me:

- The card doesn't support a component out cable

- The card supports HDTV out through an adapter

- My adapter is defective

- The HDTV is supported out of the box by a cord, but they've never seen it and can't explain why I didn't get it

- Assured me a Component Video cord was on it's way in the mail.

And I've confirmed that last one as a complete lie. So I'm going to tell the HP supervisor that he owes me 50 dollars to cover the original DVI-Component adapter I was told would work, and the cord I bought from MSI that I was told I kind of should have got to begin with.

Exactly. I asked them if a third party DVI to component adapter would work, and they said yes. I mean honestly.

I better get a check.

I finally got my HP FedEx (the MSI one has been sitting at a California FedEx office for 2 days now) and guess what, they didn't send me the S-Video/Composite Adapter!

THEY SENT ME A SINGLE VIDEO CABLE!

One fucking yellow cord. Insultingly incompetent.

As soon as the real part comes from MSI, I'm going to just go off on the HP tech guy.

So they did send a composite cable, nice, real nice. lol

Hope MSI comes through with the right cable, I'm sure they will.

lol yeah this is why I don't go prebuilt.

the cable from MSI should work. they are all pretty generic except the BFG GTX 512 where the component and svid/composit/svid in are 2 diff cables.

Atleast when i hear on the news that someone shot some RPGs or other weapons at the HP building(s) was.

WELL, MSI came through, and sent me the REAL cable.

BUT apparantly the OEM graphics card doesn't support HD or component. I hooked it up, set my nView settings, and NOTHING.

I'm apparantly shit out of luck. SO I'll just call HP and demand a 50 dollar check for assorted converters, considering through repeated phone calls they have told me it supports HDTV. Apparantly not.

That sucks, you should send them a pic showing them what cable is what. lol

I may.

I plan to have a nice long convo with the supervisor since they have Americans on call for people who know their shit.

I may even go back to using HP's cord, as the MSI one is nice, but bulky. I'll just commit to getting an S-Video cord, so it looks decent. I just wanted to play CSS or Call of Duty 2 in Surround Sound and 1080i, but apparantly it's not meant to be.
