This is from a 10x run at Very High of IBT on my i5-3570k @ 4.5.

Don't pay attention to the current #'s since I was away from the computer for awhile once I started the test and took the screenshot when I came back (I idle in the low 30's). Just look at the min/max.

Only voltage adjustment I did was put the vdroop at 100% which apparently puts it at 1.28v during 100% IBT load.

From what I read, some people are getting like 55 max with hyper 212+, and other air cooled setups. Does my h60 stink or are these temps expected? I just use a small coat of as5 for paste... nothing else special.

If these temps are ok, and from what I read they are, then I don't have any issue since 95% of the time there won't be a load on this system and it'll be throttled down to 1600mhz anyway and when there is load it most likely won't be pegged for 20 mins straight like this.
 
Have you tried to lower the voltage manually and see if its still stable? My 620 runs those temps pretty close when I OC to 4.8, so I leave it at 4.5 to have it cooler for the 24x7 thing. I noticed that when I left the volts on auto, and jumped to 4.8 OC, the volts would run to like 1.48 or something and it would get that hot. My son's 2600k will run 4.8 at like 1.35v so its tons cooler than mine and he uses the H60. I would think your temps might be close to right with that cooler, but check your volts to make sure.
 
That's something else I did read but there apparently is a bug (or maybe it's intended) in v10.5 of my msi z77a-gd65 bios where it actually doesn't let you manually set the vcore... the only option available is fudging with vdroop.

The bios was originally at v10.3 when I installed the motherboard this past week, and it didn't have that issue. But, for right now, I'm too lazy to flash it backwards. I probably will though eventually to try out your suggestion.
 
Sometimes one core run hotter than the others. At 4.5 I don't think these temp are out of line. However, because I like to screw with things even when they're probably working right, I'd reseat the cooler and add another fan for push/pull.
 
yeah I would reset it also. I have an h60 and a 2500k at 4.5 and I never get that high.

I thought IB vs SB temps aren't really comparable since IB is known to be [much] warmer?

Stock fan. I do have a 1850rpm Gentle Typhoon on the way, though. Got it solely because I expect it to be quieter than the corsair stock fan.
 
yeah but you are almost 30c higher.

I'm using a nf-f12. I never used my stock fan but i dont think it would make that much of a difference. Maybe you have a concave head. Might have to lap it.

Well... 30 might be a stretch but that's still a good enough difference. Looks like I'm getting out the rubbing alcohol tonight.

Same Very High IBT x10 run. Most of time was spent 2-3 degrees below the max.

Re-seated and all. Even found an extra 120mm Scythe (~60cfm) that I threw on it for a pull/pull.

I think AS5 actually has some of a curing time, but I don't expect any revolution from it. Maybe another degree or two.

**** it. As long as it's stable and it's not on fire, I guess I'm happy.

My temps running the latest avx coded instructions for linx and prime95 are about 85 degrees on the hottest two cores with the other two coming in around the high 70s. When I run 1.28v at 4.6ghz my temps hit 91-92 degrees on the hottest two cores.

That is hot. I guess I stand corrected as you actually have a similar chip. I knew they ran hotter, but I thought it was more of like ~10c hotter.
 
Very true, it is hot but temps on most systems stay below 85 until you go above 1.25v. When ivy goes above 1.25v temps start to rise very very quickly. If I run less than 1.25v the processor won't even break 75 degrees after hours, and on stock voltage (1.05v or so) it never hits 60. Still, despite me using prolimatech pk-1 which gave me 4 degrees from as5, I am still using an old corsair h70 which honestly isn't much better than a coolermaster hyper 212+, but a noctua d14 is out of the question due to limited clearance with my ram and first pci-e slot so...maybe an h100 in the future if I really feel like 4.7ghz.

No it doesn't blow. It's doing all that it is capable of doing. You believed the hype about these coolers, just like I did. I had an NH-D14 in my PC with max temps on 1 core core of 80C, all others were 75C max. I installed an H80 in the front top 120mm opening of my case, I made a duct to suck cool air in thru an open front 5-1/4" bay & blow hot air out the top. I tested it & got 9-10C higher temps with the H80. I'm back to the NH-D14.
 
This is somewhat disappointing, although not shocking, to hear. When I originally bought this h60 a while ago I was going from a Thermaltake Big Typhoon cooler. The thing was massive, but it was quiet and did the job. But, I didn't notice any change at all when I switched over to the h60.

I think I was just in denial since I did fall for the hype. I wasn't expecting massive gains with the h60 but I saw none at all. I didn't regress either, so I guess I was happy enough with that and having a cooler I can actually work around and the Big Typhoon was a pain in the *** to install.

What about a Thermalright Archon? Just a suggestion since it seems like you're taking air coolers into consideration.
 
I ended up bumping it down to 4.4 which allowed me to decrease my voltage to 1.215 which in turn maxed out my temps at about 78C in the same very high IBT x10 run that I've been running for this entire thread.

I'll throw some deal alerts out there for the DH-14, but I'm not in any hurry to get one. I'd rather spend the cash on 2 htpc build's going on right now.

I appreciate everyone's comments.
 
Actually, two cores max out at about 78/76 while the 2 others max out at 70/71.

I already got an RMA approved for the H60 but I'm just going to cancel it since it's not worth the hassle and I'm really not expecting any improvement anyway since there probably isn't anything wrong.

Well, I will say that two friends of mine use the h70 and h80 and they have temperatures around what I expected. Those coolers will usually at least meet what the best air coolers can manage. I use an h100 and my 2600k never sees over 55c while overclocked.

I wouldn't dismiss these coolers, but for those newer processors (that run much hotter than previous generations while overclocked) you need something quite beefy!
 
I've heard of people with excessively high temps with Ivy bridge chips on real water loops. These chips run hot as hell due to the shitty thermal paste than Intel chose to use under the IHS.

My H60 out performed a Venomous X when using the same fans. I love this little cooler.

I used an Archon prior to trying the NH-D14. The problem with the Archon is width. The outside heat pipes are low enough to hit the top of any high heatsink ram on 2011 mobos. But even an Archon cooled better than an H-80, 5-6C cooler with 2 - 140mm Silverstone Air Penetrators on it. And I'm not even talking about how LOUD the H-80 was compared to the NH-D14 & Archon.

No & I'm actually using the D-14 with the oem fans in a Pull/Pull configuration, rather than Push/Push out of the box. The H80 has 2300rpm fans on it. The fans I used on the air coolers run 1300rpm max. I think that gives the advantage to the H80 fan wise, but not noise wise.
