Does my CPU Severly Bottleneck My GPU?

please confirm that these componets WILL work together. i have been told getting a new motherboard = a new CPU unless they are compatable. can any1 confirm this setup will work.

AMD 1090t CPU
Radeon 7970 GPU (was told gpu works on any setup)
GA-990FXA-UD(3-5) not sure if im getting a 3 or a 5 yet.. please give feedback on that too. is there really a difference?

It will work fine. Thats a good motherboard, you should be able to OC much better on that.

heh you called it. computer wont start anymore. power shows but nothing on the monitor appears not even bios.

tried old PSU / GPU cant get it started. motherboard must be dead. good thing im getting a new one tomorrow.

i prey i didnt kill my CPU.. how would i check? lol the heatsink fan still spins. if only that ment the cpu was alive >.>

You may have fried your CPU too. It's not quite as likely but it's possible.

Max Temp 62C. Those logs also show your CPU hitting upwards of 75+C. Why were you still running it at 100% load like that?

I don't want to discourage you here, but you're possibly costing yourself a lot of money by just throwing things together and buying stuff without understanding it. It would be really beneficial for you to step back and take your time and do some research yourself to understand what's going on instead of just throwing a bunch of data up here and asking "what do I buy?"

Your previous components had at least two problems:
1.) Your cooling was inadequate or your heatsink was improperly seated to overclock that processor. - likely bad seating, the TX-3 should be fine for a moderate overclock on that processor
2.) The motherboard you were using could not handle overclocked 125w processors without throttling.

Additionally, it seems like you ran it hard with the CPU hitting 75+C regularly. Before overclocking or even at stock speeds you should always check the max temp for the processor and avoid exceeding that. The processor has some self-throttling capabilities, but you don't want to hit them.

ive got my system working again. im getting the new case for the cooling and the new motherboard for the clocking and to handle my gcard.

this thread is my research and im putting as much detail into every choice i make. i could read those logs but i wanted to confirm that it was the motherboard and not the CPU.

It shows the CPUs supported by the motherboard you listed ... you were asking on page 3, before I realized there was a page 4 where you said it was working already lol

ok well now i have an issue..

computer just crashed. screen went navy blue without any text like a regular BSOD. what does that mean

everything stock settings just ran my Prime95. CPU sits @ 55c cores or 60c cpu temp

i have a 30-40 dollar CPU cooler >.> + the silver. will a HAF X fix this too or should i get a better cpu cooler + will a new motherboard fix this.

quickly can someone give me some details on these two boards.

Gigabyte GA-990XA
Gigabyte 990FXA

i was going to get a FXA but the XA is like 30 bucks cheaper and looks identical but without a eSATA port. do i even need that with my setup? what are the differences between these two boards

the ud3 990fxa has 2 pci-e x16 slots running at x16, and only one pci slot, +esata

The 990xa has 1 pci-e x16 slot running at x16 and other running at x8, and 2 pci slots

would be the differences.
