Does it matter which slots my RAM stick are in?

I have my 2x256 crappy Dell in the first two slots, and my 2x512 Corsair XMS in the second two.

Should I put the Corsair in the first two slots? Does it matter?

depends on the situation. If your trying to run in dual channel the same two sticks should be put in the correct slots. I wouldn't worry about it though, you should be fine.

how did the ram come in the first place? usually 1+3 = dual channel, so you'll want the XMS in those two slots and the original ram in 2+4.. but as qwerty implied, it depends on your mobo
