Does it matter whether or not HDMI is used to hook up your video card?

I just got my GTX 260 in the mail, and there this little insert of instructions on how to connect HDMI. I have a DELL 3007 and I was using Dual Link DVI to hook it up to my old crappy video card while I wait to build my new system.

Is there any diff between HDMI/ DL DVI?

From what I understand:

DVI = Digital video

HDMI = Digital video + audio

In terms of "video" quality. They are the same. Digital is digital.

HDMI=1920x1080p resolution.
Using the DVI cable, you'll be able to run your 30in at it's native resolution of 2560x1600.

Digital Visual Interface - Digital (DVI-D) with High Definition

Ok thanks

NP. The HDMI connection is best used when you're using a LCD TV as a monitor.

There is no difference whatsoever. HDMI and DVI have the same video protocol and pins.

As long as a 1.3 cable is used, yes HDMI can be used instead of a DVI connection for the same effect.

Since he already has a DVI cable, that leaves his HDMI connection free for a console. :)
