I went from (4x1)corsairs running my q6600 stable at 3.5ghz. to 8gb (4x2) and had to go down to 3.4ghz ti get stable again. both kits were ddr2-800 and holding me back. I need to know if it will be possible to hit 3.6ghz with 8gb with 1066 ram. did I lose some overclocking because of my particular modules. or is it the fact that it's 8gigs?
 
4 sticks of any size ram is always hard on the Northbridge and bus speed.

Go 400x9 to keep the CPU at 3.6 and keep the ram at DDR2 800 speed. Keeping the speeds 1:1 would be nicer then having higher clocked ram, plus, it's easier on the NB.
 
running 4 sticks (just added 2 yesterday) of Dominator 1066, 2x2gb and 2x1gb and my OC is fine. Didn't have to up my NB any after adding the 2 sticks (granted mine was kind of high already).

Did you manually set the DDR voltage?

It's possible that your new sticks just require more voltage. A lot of sticks require 2.0-2.1v and most bios's on auto set it to ~1.8v
 
Yeah you can...

400x9 = 800 memory. Easy. If you were doing a 667 bus, then it's make sense to do 1066 mem.

I'm running 400x8 (3.2GHz) and 800 memory (my chip doesn't do a 9x multi).

DDR2 = speed should be double the bus to be in 1:1.

According to Corsair it should run at 1.9v that's what I set it to. should I Take it to 2.0v?
 
When I moved to 4 sticks of 2gig I had to raise my ddr voltage as well as my southbridge voltage to keep the previous overclock.
 
It seems like I've always had problems with 4 sticks.

With my GA-965P-DS3 board and a E6750, I was doing 3.6GHz with Buffalo Firestix DDR2-800 memory running at 900MHz with 5-5-5-15 timings with just 2 sticks. When I added two more sticks I had trouble until I changed the timings to 5-5-5-18, then everything seemed good.

Then I replaced that motherboard with the Abit IP35Pro and it was able to do 5-5-5-15 at 900MHz just fine with 4 sticks.

Then I replaced E6750 with a Q9550 at 3.8GHz and my 4x1GB memory with Patriot Viper DDR2-1000 2x2GB at 900MHz and that was fine (it was fine with the 4x1GB Firestix too).

Then I upgraded to 4x2GB (same Patriot memory). And I couldn't do 900MHz regardless of how loose I set my timings. I cranked the memory voltage up to 2.3v (2.1v memory), but that didn't work either. Eventually I had to lower my Q9550 3.8GHz OC to 3.6GHz because the 4x2GB memory was fine up to 848MHz.

Then (lots of thens) I replaced my IP35 Pro board with an GA-EP45-UD3P. Still with the 4x2GB of memory, I was able to go back up to 900MHz with 5-5-5-15 timings. And now 920MHz with 5-5-5-15 timings.

So I've usually run into problems. Sometimes I could work around them with looser memory settings, sometimes I couldn't. But for me each newer chipset generation has improved my ability to use 4 memory sticks.
 
Going from 2 to 4 sticks of RAM didn't hurt my overclock at all.

I did have to up the RAM voltage a tiny bit though, but that is normal when you are running 4 sticks.

My mobo maxes out at 480fsb with 2 or 4 sticks installed.
