Does gain/amp control work on lcds?

im tuning rgb gain/amp = 0/0/0 in the factory menu of s2440L dell it doesn't seem to reduce the white luminance at all. Does gain/amp control work on lcds?
 
if you're trying to reduce white level, you can use the custom color controls and turn down the rgb values. to do this accurately while maintaining a specific color temperature, you'll probably need a colorimeter.

note that this will reduce contrast since you're reducing the white level but not altering backlight brightness.

so i guess it kinda doesnt work.. i was trying to avoid lowering the brightness since it causes pwm flicker to raise its head.
 
or you could try lowering white level using the brightness control in your video driver's control panel.

lowering white levels digitally this way, or by lowering the rgb values in the osd, will always reduce contrast since the black level remains the same. if you're okay with the black level at maximum backlight intensity (max brightness in osd), then it shouldn't be a problem.

thanks ive gone through the hoops.. i was mainly interested in knowing why this wasnt working and if it doesnt work in all lcds. seems like amp settings are kinda useless in lcds or atleast handicapped majorly without concurrent back light dimming.

doesnt work like it does in CRTs.
