in my server, I have 2gb of pc133 ecc registered ram. I looked online for prices on more of this ram, and holy god they are expensive. So, can I expand my memory by adding regular NonECC / Non registered ram? Or could I only use one type at a time?

i.e. can I have 2gb ecc/registered along with 2gb nonecc/nonregistered?

thanks a lot.

my gut says that all the ram has to be either ecc or non ecc and the mobo would have to support both (i'm not sure if a mobo that supports ecc ram implies that it also supports non ecc ram)

as i understand it you should be able to run them both BUT you may run into memory problems ..your best bet is to run all of one or the other.

pc133ecc/sdram/reg is getting expensive because its more of a commodity nowadays but what board are you running.

For example my company almost wants to give away ram we have for the intel STL mobo's ..

some boadrs only like matched sets also... so it can be a crap shoot as to what will work, some pairs will one work with matched pairs and generic wont always work

I was woundering the same question... it seems most of the server mobo's require ec registered ram... what is the difference?
