Does Drive position on cable really matter?

I have an optical and a HDD on the same cable, the HDD being master and optical being slave. I've heard that the master must go on the end of the cable and slave on the middle plug but i have it the other way arround, is that ok?

Oh and i don't have the jumpers on Cableselect.
