im trying to gain FPS but i dont wanna overclock my video card ebcasue ive heard it can mess up with Doom 3. overclocking my processor wont affect anythign will it? i dont wanna burn my chip up.

Personally I have a 2.4c @ 3.3GHz and my 6800GT @ 418/1.13GHz

Makes a big difference...

I play D3 at 1600x1200 2x AA and 4x AF on High Graphical settings... There is no visable lag at any time that I have found... Thats with full services and F@H running in background still..

it seems like all the problems and doom 3 are with overclocking video cards.. and the problem can be solved by turning on vsync... as for the processor.. you shouldn't see a problem

Overclocking any hardware can cause problems and potentially damage it. Some software is just more likely to expose instabilities.

the reason d3 causes problems with 'stable' ocs is that it uses some silicon which isn't used by any other game on the market (cmon hl2!). this causes the system to be less stable. however, all of the cpu gets used by many programs, so it's not being forced to use parts that it hasn't used before. so, basically, no it won't hurt anything. make sure you're prime stable though.

If you are thorough enough in your testing, you're good to go. Prime95, Memtest x86 for hours, W1zzard's ATI Tool artifact tester seems to be one of the best for vid cards. It verified what I had found by playing 20 different games.

My overclock is stable, Doom 3 has shown no different. As a matter of fact, as far as CPU goes, my temp under full load is generally 51*C, under Doom 3 is only 47*C.
