Does backlight bleeding affect light images too?

I noticed my new monitor has a little backlight bleeding along the top and bottom edges so I turned the brightness down to compensate wile watching movies in the dark... But then I noticed this produces slight yellowing of brighter images in the exact same regions as the bleeding.

Is this usual? Seems illogical to me that "bleeding" light could cause dimming.
