When roundabouts is the x800 XT or x800 XT PE (pci-e connection) coming out so I can built a pc for college soon.... ATM i can't find a amd motherboard or info on one with pci-e which makes me sad since i'm a amd man but oh well I guess i'll have to go the way of intel... but even then I can build a whole machine like I want but the x800 series isn't out for me to buy like I want.... only the x600 and x300 if i'm correct.... does anyone know when this will be avalible so I can pick one up for my machine for college?

If your looking for an Amd board with Pci-e, check out the new Socket 939 interface just released. Looks like its going to be a sweet set up though a bit pricey. 9800pro and XT's are on back order all over the place. I just bought my X800pro at compusa for $399. They said pre-order on the display modles but they had a few in the back when I asked a sales rep. I highly recommend this card. 40% speed increase over my 9800pro. If your building a new computer for school. Socket 939 is the way to go AMD wise. It will allow you to build a great system and good upgrading capabilities in the future. Good Luck!

i would rather get a 6800GT
thats a better bang for the buck and also if your going PCI-E you can always buy another 6800GT and SLI them..also 6800's support HDR and SM 3.0. All a x800 is a hyped up 9800pro...IMO...........waits for flaming fan boys...w00t w00t

ummm maybe i'm just confused but how does the 939 socket interface have anything to do with a pci-e slot motherboard..... thats for the processor.... I want a amd motherboard with pci-e on it and I want a x800 XT PE as my graphics card but the amd pci-e motherboards arn't coming out till after I am going to already be at college... so I guess its time for me to build a intel machine :(

i thought the cards would have to have the SLI connector.

I hate to break the news to you but the XT PE is an AGP card. PE=performance edition

No word on the PCI-E version of the x800xt.

The AGP version of the x800xtpe is available on ATI's website for preorder, eta september 15th.

The post above has some misinformation. I do believe he meant the PCI-E version is available September 15th. The AGP x800 XT Platinum Edition is "available" now through many of ATI's retailers as well as those companies that rebrand ATI's cards i.e. Visiontek. The x800 PRO is available in much greater quantities than the XT PE simply because the PE's yields have been lower due to the lack of quality GDDR3 memory. However, you can pre-order / get on a backorder list for the XT PE as many here at the [H] forums have done.

Heh since my post is "misinformation," I think if the x800xtPE was in stock somewhere there are a ton of people on this forum that would like to know where. So since its apparently available where is it available?

Only the Nvidia 6800 pci-e series is slated to come with SLI connectors for use with dual slot PCI-express motherboards. If you want to use the X800 in SLI you have to buy a special $5000 Alienware PC that has SLI for all videocards because ATI currently does not support SLI on the videocard itself.

That is exactly what my post does not say. I never said that it is in stock and ready to be shipped but rather that it is "available" through the pre-order / back-order avenue. I have an XT PE purchased through Outpost that will hopefully ship on 7/20 as they will receive anywhere from 20-90 Visiontek XT PEs. The card IS hard to find and the best you'll get right now is to be on some list waiting for the card to arrive.

So if that is the case that they are not available for order anywhere (only for preorder), then how is my comment that they are available for preorder at ATI's site with an eta of 9/15 misinformation?

Outpost and CDW have been moving up their ETA date every week for the last month+, who knows when they will actually come in. At least with ATI you have a solid date.

A good point, but I think that if ATI were only beginning to sell them Septermber 15th it seems incongruous that Visiontek would/could begin selling them on July 20th?

ATI actually sold a few from their their shop already, too. But it looks like they won't be available in mass quantity (i.e. so average schmoe can order them) until Sep. from ATI. From the looks of the market now, I don't see why that date is so unbelievable - its nearly august and they are still impossible to find, nevermind in big numbers.

If the starter of this thread wants a card "soon" as he stated, the x800xt would be a mistake as he could end up waiting in line until after his school starts.

He should go with the X800PRO or the 6800GT.

That's all very true. I think ATI is simply being prudent with their dates. I would bet that that date would change significantly in the next few weeks simply because I do not think that Outpost is moving the dates back a week every week just for fun. However, if the September 15 date is firm it would be really bad if they didn't arrive in mass quantities until then.
