Yellow LED's

I mean YELLOW. I've been getting a few samples from places my employee purchases from and everything is a cruddy amber color, even though it's advertised as yellow.

If anyone can point me in the direction of LED's they know for a fact are yellow, it would be greatly appreciated. :)

thanks for the link, but I'm interested in finding some input from someone who actually uses a particular LED and can verify that is yellow. Unfortunately many of the "yellow" LEDs found online are amber, and I'd prefer not wasting my money to track them down.

Some places advertise the wavelength of light. WEith a little research you could determine the wavelength for the yellow you want and go from there.

I have a link on my computer at home that has a pretty good place to order from. I'll post it if you don't find anything on your own.

SarverSystems beat me to the punch. Color can be subjective, it would be easiest if you could provide a range of wavelengths you are looking for. What LEDs did you try? Do they have published wavelengths?

I found some "Super Yellow" with models ranging from 590nm to 599nm

Edit: I have found a couple sources that quote yellow from 570-590nm so perhaps you want something on the lower end, although they will tend to green?

i got some from radio shack, and they seem pretty "yellow" to me.. not amber, but more banana yellow, if that makes sense.

560nm is about the yellow you're going to want.

Anything below 555nm will appear "tinted green" and anything above about 575nm will start moving towards the Amber side of the spectrum.

Another alternitive (that I've used) is to die some High Powered White LEDs with yellow vinyl dye... Just mix a 10:90 concentration of dye to distilled water, and let the clear LED hang out in the solution overnight.

I've done this to make non UV purple, and good Green LED's before. RIT dye works well.

^^^ - At 1st I thought - Wow! $15 for an LED? Then realized it was for a package of 500. :D

P. S. - was noticing the 5mm are 10* viewing angle LEDs - like a spotlight. Great for accenting a small area. But not good for lighting a case interior. The 3mm are 20*-25* which is better for lighting larger areas.

Damn. [H] to the rescue yet again. I'm heading off to bed now, but I'll dig into what I can find about what I've used before. Thanks to everyone who's posted so far, you're all a blessing.
