if anyone else has this pump all i want to know is if the barbs can be replaced with 1/2 inch ones instead of 3/8?

I'm sure you could, but there'd be very little point. The internal workings of the pump are still 3/8... and you'd lose alot of flowrate... Nevetheless it's a nice small pump, and if they had one in 1/2flavour, I'd be all over it.
 
you could always slip a piece of 1/2"OD tubing over the barbs and then use your 1/2"ID tubing.
 
thank you everyone who helped now i am wondering if the "nomonial head" matters i mean i read on performance pcs that that the DD mag pump only has Maximum head: 2.3 M (3.3 PSI) and the other pump i am not thinking about since i dont want to mod the first one i am thinking between the danger den one and this mcp655 swiftech they both have 1/2 inch barbs but the swiftech one has... Maximum head of (3.1 m) and the dd one had only (2.3 m) will that matter in my lian-li pc-60 that i will be getting in the mail here soon (hopefully) more info on the pc-60 here!

so what would be better for my case?

the DDC is a really quiet pump that gets very good performance for it's noise level. it beats the pants off of the CSP mag, at a similar noise level, with the DDC using 3/8" tubing and the mag using 1/2".

the mcp655 is the same pump as the DD D5 12V, and is an excellent high performance offering. it's louder than the DDC, but also performs better. it's a great pump, depending on what your system noise target is.

the height of the case doesn't make a whole lot of difference to how much head you need. it's a closed loop, so almost all of the work you do moving the water up, you re-claim as the water falls back down.

you need pump head to force water through your waterblocks and other components. how much head a pump has basically determins how much water it will be able to pump when it's working against a resistance. you want as much pumping head as you can afford and can tollerate the noise of. flow matters as well, of course, howeverzero flow head is so much higher than you actually get moving through a water cooling loop that it's better just to evaluate power based on the pump's head.

what pump should i get for it? which would be my best bet the swiftech mcp655 or the Danger Den mini pump?
 
I thought the general rule of thumb was to have the reseviour as the highest part in your loop for air bubbles to escape.
 
well this is my first watercooling setup so i have no idea where to put anything?!? i might just get the fillport and put that in the top of the case... should i do that?

EDIT: I'll get another pic of what ill probally do...
 
I'm going to build one soon too, so I only know what I've researched so far by listening to all the knowledgeable people on this great forum.Make sure you read the stickied threads, those are great for answering most questions.

so long as your fillport and T-line or res, whichever you choose to use, is located immediately before the pump intake within the flow of the loop, it will do it's job properly regardless of it's height.

is made by c-systems. it is nothing special in terms of performance, reasonably quiet when it works properly, and cheap. their previous generation mag had lots of quality/lifespan issues. i have not heard a whole lot about this new one either way. at least one person with problems, but i don't know how many are in the field.

the D5 fits the bill for an awfull lot of people, and is not usually obtrusive when running with a 2x120mm fan rad cooling CPU chipset and GPU. unless you put up some specifics on your noise level targets, i don't have much more to say.

issues all resolved in current rev pumps - LOTS in the field and have been for several months now with no signs of problems of earlier revs. Confidence recovering in CSystems.

you are hosed, having purchased those fans. thermaltake sound ratings are WAY out of line, compared to the way in which other manufacturers rate. i'm not able to find a decent review of that fan, but just because of the company that makes it, it's almost guranteed to be over 23 dB for each one. just for a reference, the thermaltake thunderblade 120mm is rated for 21 dB and is comperable to a delta, panaflo, sunon, yate loon or ADDA 120mm fan rated for just shy of 30 dB. thermaltake doesn't exactly lie, but they measure noise levels in a different manner than anyone else, which makes their fans rate much quieter than their competitors would rate that fan.

if you want quiet opperation, with real noise levels below 20 dB, you should be looking at a yate loon fans dialed down as far as they will go and still spin. ideally a 3x120 rad with three fans as above will maintain good temps at super low noise levels. running a 2x120mm at below 20 dB will cost you in terms of load temps.

the DDC is quiet, but not that quiet. targeting noise levels that low you're looking at something more like the the eheim 1048. the 1048 is much lower performing, but also quieter.

seriously.....you should have noted just how quiet you wanted things to start with. that is a ridiculously low noise target, and you will clearly hear you HDDs spinning and your PSU fan over it.

you must be annoyed by the sound of someone else breathing at the other end of the house, if you want things THAT quiet..........
 
thanks for telling me about the thermal take "different way of measuring dba's" i will remember to get a panaflo next time.. it was really quiet and pushed alot of air! but i never knew how loud they were as far as dbs's go... so since you said panaflos run shy or 30 dba's i will consider that my target (somewhere around 30 dba).

just to clarify: i have no idea how loud something is until i listen to it! i thought 16 dba would be good since, well, since i saw that was the lowest i have seen... but now that you have explained it to me (which i really appreciate), i will probally get panaflos now only becuase those were very quiet IMO and i liked them...

and also, No i am not bothered by someone breathing next to me... let alone on the other end of the house! i can handle 30 dba's now that i realize my panaflo was around there!

i like my panaflo fans, but yate loon units under-volt better. they are also sold as "nexus" real silent fans, which are wired to run at 9 volts and 22 dB. especialls with a quiet pump like a DDC, yate loon fans on a fan controller would be a better bet than panaflos.
 
alrighty ill do that then ill get a fan controller... and some yate loon fans!
