I have the worlds most shitty keyboard is what all my friends say but i just cant get over how nice it feels to me and i wouldnt trade it for any other keyboard in the world. I was wondering if anyone else had something like this with theres?

i dont care about my keyboard too much i can adapt to almost anything

got mine for $5 off the egg, doesnt even have a brand name

I got so used to my Eluminx that I cant game with any other keyboard. I love the way it feels!

The best keyboard for my taste that I've found so far are the silver and black ones that are shipping with new Compaq / HP business machines. Great key action IMO.

The Microsoft Ergonometric Multimedia keyboard is the best i've ever used. Feels heavier and better built then the Logitech Elite. There is a new gray/white model out too. Plus if anything goes wrong with a Microsoft product they will replace it for free no problem. Your feet wear out on your MS mouse they send you a new one. The new Intellimouse 4.0 rocks. Both of these are the highest recommened in gaming magazines.

Only thing that's important to me in a keyboard is that I can press enough buttons at the same time and not run into problems. I also don't like ergonomic designs, I prefer standard 'box' layouts.

Usually that means I can only use microsoft keyboards or the higher end logitechs, but once in a while I find a 'cheapo' brand name that works too, and that's always pleasant.

I don't like it if the keys have too much sideways travel, and I positively hate the feedback (or lack of such) in some of the cheaper logitechs, where you have to press a bit too much further after it gives to actually register a keypress. (Ideally, when you feel the spring/cheap rubber mat give or click, that should indicate that the keypress was registred exactly then, not another mm later.)
I've lost a lot of "O"s and "P"s within words on those.

Outside those, I still prefer logitech, the MS keyboards I've tried felt a bit flimsy.
My personal favorite is a (recently dead) no-name one I had from, I'd guess, sometime before thre 386. Nice little crisp *click* for each key.
From what I've heard, I really should get my hands on an IBM model M (with the right keycaps) :D

That said, as long as you can't floor a key without it registring, and the layout is reasonably standard, it'll do.

(Just for fun, what I consider a standard layout is amusingly different from the US standard. Makes it interesting whenever I haven't set the right keymap in something.)

what keyboard do you use?

i have always liked both IBM and logitech keyboards.

I have had oportunities to upgrade my powermac usb clear keyboard but I cant, I like it too much and I love how the keys feel when I type.

I like my HP Multimedia keyboard. It's an older PS/2 not the newer USB. Manufactured by Silitek.

I use an old Compaq keyboard, has everything I need and nothing I don't. Been using it since '98 I think. When someone else uses it they can't get used to the Shift key, says it doesn't work. I assure them it does and tell them they just are used to a shitty keyboard - or maybe I am ;) .

im using a gateway keyboard. dont konw who makes it, took it all apart, no brandings. works great for me

I also have a Apple Pro keyboard and i love it to death, i bought it for my laptop and ended up getting another for my pc.

I think the Compaq keyboard I am using was originally on my pentium 75 machine. 101 key, no extra buttons (no stupid "winders" key!) and its very very clicky. I love it. I'm going to bury it in the garden when it dies.

I also love my logitech wireless mx700 keyboard/mouse set.

i hate the squishy button keyboards, I need a good snap. my current keyboard is an NMB... it came with the last PC my parents bought, a micron P-100...

My old cheapo keyboard from 9 years ago I got with my Pentium 100.

Unfortunately the space bar now permenantly sticks :( and I'm stuck on a cheap PC line one until I can get an old IBM one :D

Logitech Elite...Love it...

I know it wasn't asked, but the MX310 mouse works great with it!...Love em both...

i like any keyborad as long as it doesnt make a lot of noise and the backspace button isnt half the normal size.

ones without the goddamn insert , home, end etc keys direct above the arrow keys. that shit pisses me off so much.

I love my black logitech cordless keyboard. but before that I was using a Split keyboard which was fantastic. It improved my typing speed significantly. It just felt nice to use it.

I also have a usb keyboard from a powermac that just feels sweet to type on.

James

MS Natural Elite for me. Yeah, the original one, that actually HAS an insert key, and none of those silly "shortcut" keys.

Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro. It's:

* USB
* Split
* Unfucked arrow keys
* Unfucked delete key

No such keyboards are made anymore, the bastards.

If cost is no object then I can recommend the good old Northgate Omnikey units. Yeah, Northgate is now defunct, but you can buy the same item from a company called Avant. These keyboards have that classic heavy click that lots of users swear by. It'll be a sad day when my old 1988 Omnikey craps out.

I also have another one I like, which came with my old NEC P-90 machine back in '95. Similar to the Omnikey, just slightly less tactile response and much quieter.

Logitech Elite is hot, I've got one myself. However, I'm still looking for a keyboard that will last over 3-4 months without feeling sticky and crappy. If there was a $150 keyboard with a great feel that had a lifetime warranty I would pick it up and shut my mouth.

I love my old Apple Extended Keyboard II. It weighs more than many laptops, meaning it will lie absolutely still. They keys are VERY nice and clicky. It's sturdy. It's high quality (it's like ten years old and still works). It is, by far, the best keyboard I've ever used. No useless special function buttons, either. That's what the Fn buttons are for. :D
And instead of little legs on the back for it to lean, it has a horizontal slider that you drag back and forth to raise and lower the back of the keyboard.

Just too bad it's ADB, and converters to USB are rather expensive.

Yeah me too, definitely the best one I've used. The media controls are a godsend, and there's a huge volume knob that's fun to spin while waiting for downloads :p

Of course, it's a Norwegian keymap, and I've been using it for the past 2 years . . . I don't think I'll be able to go back to an American one :confused:

I've always used this Microsoft Standard internet keyboard. Next computer I'm getting the same keyboard, only the one up with Multimedia buttons on it (IE: volume control, etc). It's only like $5 more.

I like the Logitech keyboards but hate the F-Lock key. It is just plain annoying and does more harm than good. I do like the way the keys feel though when you type on it.

I also have the Viewsonic Black Slim keyboard which is really nice. I like the laptop style keys and it looks really good as it is color coordinated with all the other hardware on my desk.

The Microsoft ergonomic keyboards look really cool and I would like to try one out and see if I like it or not. Heard a lot of good comments on it and may get it as my next keyboard.

I have a 4 year old mouse/keyboard setup from an old emachines computer. It is the loudest keyboard and the backspace button needs a lot of pressure to push it down. I think it is time to upgrade :p

anybody have an idea where I could get a black ergonomic keyboard?

manufacturer isnt really important - just as long as its black.

I have a friend who only uses the model M keyboard as well. It makes that clicky noise and gives a real good feel. I would actually like to ask him for one or two of them. He has about 10 or so that he goes through like one a year. He just throws it out and picks up the same model M keyboard. It's kind of funny since he absolutley HATES newer ones and will only use that one.

My elite is nice but the drivers are a pain in the ass and it sometimes wigs out in windows if I don't have the drivers. I would reccomend it because its cheap and it gives nice media controls but I will most likley be purchasing a microsoft internet keyboard or a microsoft natural internet keyboard if my wallet is heavier on the day.
