apparently motherboard manufacterers have figured out SLI w/o the bridge.. would that let us use 6800NU's?
 
hehe, it was possible, it'd allow using 2 x800s too ;)

or imagine pairing 6800 with an x800 :eek:

Maybe if this MoBo comes out I can get a x800 instead of a 6800 GT in PCI E. THE CARD IS IMPOSSABLE to find....
 
The x800's are made to run in SLI with no bridge, it's done driver wise, it buts the gained performance by about 30% I think, prolly would want to check into that

Edit: I don't think nvidia wants you to do it with 6800nu's... so I don't think so man.

afaik, the models that support SLI are 6600GT, 6800nu, 6800GT, 6800 Ultra. Haven't seen any evidence to show otherwise.
 
Who cares about the XLI stuff, it's a 30% decrease in performace, the SLI connector is like 10 bucks, pay 10 bucks for 30% increase in performance?? I thought so.

The reason for the 30% hit is cause without the bridge (hardware) the motherboard has to take resources of its own and do it software wise. Besides I think this is only an ATi thing... connectorless SLI, that is, i'd have to look it up and I'm not in the mood sorry.

That 6800nu is $350 because

1. It's PCI-E...which always brings a premium now-a-days.
2. It's got 2x the local memory...check the AGP 6800nu, it's 128MB.

I know :(. I'm running a damn 6600 vanilla, with a mis-bought agp 6800 GT sitting ready to go back to newegg. I don't want to pay what they are going to want for one, either, but somehow I know I will end up doing it anyway. I guess I don't really
need to eat anything other than macaroni and cheese for a month....

But with ddr instead of gddr3, why would you want to spend that much for two of them? One isn't going to be hardly that competitive against a 6600 GT. My 256 DDR 6600 vanilla is better than say my go5700 in my laptop, but I'm certainly not going to brag about it:(

Not that one buys fast video cards for bragging rights, or anything...it's the games, the games!

The 6800nu with DDR will handily beat a 6600GT with DDR3 in terms of memory

though the 6600GT can operate at 1000mhz memory speed with ddr3, it only has a 128-bit memory bus, while the 6800nu has a 256-bit memory bus when operating at 700mhz with ddr1.

Therefore, in terms of memory bandwidth:

6800 = 256 * 700 / 8 = 22.4gbps
6600GT = 128 * 1000 / 8 = 16gbps

winner = 6800 by quite a bit

Not to mention the extra 128mb of the 6800nu will help in memory intensive apps.

I would guess that two of those 6800 256mb MSI cards in SLI will beat an ultra, and if you can unlock the pipes on them, they'd probably destroy an Ultra.

Looks like it has a great software bundle as well.
 
man these prices need to come down... :mad: ;)

that sucks about the 30% decrease... i still want to see how to actually does though.
