what the heck happened to this game? seems like there was a little hype last year and besides the tech demo no much has been mentioned about this game. it seems to have been released at only $29.99 which makes we wonder if the developers themselves know its not a worthy game. I am afraid to get it with some real reviews from individuals so who has it and what do you think?

There's a thread about a place selling the digital download for 50% off ($15) for the next few days if you want to check it out. I never got it, though I'm thinking about it. Honestly, it's a Russian developed title which generally means good gameplay but shitty code in my rather limited experience... and considering I no longer have Nvidia GPUs it will probably run horribly on my machine due to heavy emphasis on physics and use of PhysX.

yeah I posted in that thread. I would rather buy retail then to buy it through that company. they want $2.99 extra just have unlimited downloads of your own game for only 2 years. it is tempting though...

It got a nice review at gamespot.
I played it briefly and its interesting but I cant make a final call on it just yet.

Bought this game on the 21st, if memory serves. Was lucky to find a copy at a local best buy. My thoughts:

Beware those with anything but the highest end systems. This game is demanding. With my rig, I average 40-50 probably with dips to 20 being infrequent. I have a feeling that it's due more to underdeveloped coding, as silent-circuit feared. The graphics aren't tremendously impressive but the physx effects have been novel and worth the expense. I haven't played through much of the game because I'm pretty certain it will be patched in the not-too-distant future but the story thus far is definitely intriguing. I'd recommend the game only to those who either, like me, really enjoy these glorified physx demos, or just want something low key and original. Like I said, it needs patched, it should be soon, and if not it will probably be forgotten very quickly as its hardware requirements limit its prospective demographic.

thanks for the info. what res are you playing at? also why do you only have 2gigs of ram in an awesome system like that?

It is indeed a heavy hitter...thank God I got the physx GPU but even then I can see how its slows down too often compared to better looking games. :)

If hes using XP he can get away with it. Seeing as no games demand 4gigs and XP being light weight. 2gigs is perfect for it. But if hes on Vista. Ya that's interesting.

turn off PhysX, you should see quite a performance boost from that...

Besides, with 2 x GTX280 already taking 2GB of the addresable ram then what would be the point of having more than 2GBs anyway? XP would see about 3.5GB and thats RAM plus VIDEO RAM.
If he has a x64 bit OS then yes, I would be surprised that he is just running 2GB.
Regards

...so much relies on PhysX in that game though. Without PhysX I don't think it'd be at all the same.

Random thought: What happens if you disable SLI and dedicate your second 280 to PhysX?

Have not yet tried turning physx off, but good idea! Will do that tonight as well as dedicating one GPU to physx as zandor suggested. I play at my 28" HannsG's native res which is 1920x1200 and since it's larger than most other displays with that res, I usually have to apply some AA but I"ve not yet resorted to that in this game for obvious reasons.

Thanks to the posters who pointed out the error in my sig - I would not have caught it otherwise. I am indeed running x64 Vista with 4gb of DDR3. I'm running my DIMM slots 4x1 and had originally intended to go 4x2 at a later date but, luckily, 4gb seems to be more than adequate.

My sister may also be ditching her 8800GT for something a bit newer and if that happens I'll try sticking that in between the 2 280s. You guys think the GT could handle the physx side of things on its own?

this is one of the reason why we should have CPU side or dedicated physics card instead of GPU side...

or nVidia finally put a dedicated Physics processor onto their card, then that will be the day physX finally shine....

I have it and it runs like crap. Apparently this game is single threaded so that explains the sluggish framerate. Great concept, but executed in a mediocre way.

what about a run with the physx off completely? thats how I ran Mirrors Edge after having some issues with physx in the game.

Eh....repeat that?
Run the game with NO physics at all?

.oO(What would be the point, gameplay will NOT be representive?!)

well is it that important to gamepaly or mainly fluff like in Mirrors Edge?

PhysX runs all physcis ingame...try running Lost World without havok...amkes no sense.

PhysX is a fullflegded physics API, don't know why people think is can't run the most common game-physics?

well I just asked a simple question. for Mirrors Edge having physx on was more trouble than it was worth for a few effects. turning it off completely eliminated any slowdowns in the game. in other words those few effects were not worth the fps hit. I am asking the same thing about Cryostasis. can you even play it with physx off like Mirrors Edge?

And I am telling you to google what a physics engine is and does.
You should also google "gameplay physcis" and "effects physcis".

PhysX in cryostasis is responsible for particles, tarps, curtains, rag dolls, rigid bodies ect.

He's apparently too busy fellating PhysX' proverbial manhood. I've seen a lot of these types on here lately, since the Ghostbusters gameplay video a couple weeks ago.

yeah all he can do is link me to an article thats not even about the actual game. that was just the tech demo which was made to show off physx. Firingsuad even said "In addition, the techdemo doesn’t provide a setting for turning PhysX on or off, so we don’t know how the game compares visually with PhysX on versus off, nor do we know the performance hit PhysX brings". I guess its too hard for Atech to actually say if it can be turned off in the game and what the results are visually and performance wise.

Guys, sometimes I just dont get US.
Everytime something new shows up there are always users eager to put it down and call it a non sense gimmik.
Dont you realize that this is getting us closer to reality? Graphics are very nice these but its those little details that are lacking and make games still feel fake. Adding physics is the next step to making games feel more like real life and more immersive.
As far as Mirror's Edge I never had a problem with physx after applying the patch so not sure whats going on for you guys.

look this isnt a freaking debate. I am not putting down physx as a whole so dont turn this thread into that. its a very simple question about Cryostasis and thats all.

as for Mirrors Edge many people had problems and there was a possible solution that involved uninstalling and reinstalling physx and video drivers. the problem stemmed from some weird conflict with other Unreal 3 engine games on users pcs.

Well, you could have fooled me cause it really looks like it was you who actually turned this into a debate. Read my first reply...I didnt mention this at all.
In any case, its your thread so do whaever you want with it. In fact switch to 8bit color for better performance too.
Regards

are you really that ignorant to equate 8 bit color with not using Physx? if you dont have anything half way intelligent to add then then please dont post anymore. I dont know what Cryostasis looks and plays like with physx off and that is what I am trying to find out now. if its not much better than the effects in Mirrors Edge then I would rather have the higher framerate with not using at all.

I would so buy the game for 15 bucks on gameagent but the fact that it's not really going to be "my" game rather then simply a long-rental irks me.

Wish it was on steam.

I don't think you guys are going to have to wait long for this one to come down to $15 for a retail copy.

Just based on the reviews that I've seen, it's a $15 game.

I don't know, but I don't think Physx hardware is required to play the game. That would be suicide. Wouldn't it?

yeah it would and thats sort of my point. I would certainly think you dont have have physx for the game to look and play decently. unfortunately no one can give a straight answer as to what the game looks and plays like if physx is off.

I'm tired of the whole Physx thing. I had a 260 with a 9800GT for Physx and I ran Vantage and got my awesome score and the UT3 maps and..........yawn.....stretch.
Call me when it's done.

Anyway, don't want to hijack and turn this into a Physx thread. If you think Crysis threads are ugly.....

shivers

I'm trying to find someplace that looked at the game both ways but not a lot out there so far.

yeah I dont care either way and will just take it on a game by game basis. for Mirrors Edge I just felt the extra framerate was better than those effects it offered. I just want to see what Cryostasis looks like and how it plays with physx off compared to physx on. obviously thats some that two people in this thread cant grasp.

so did you actually find any place that compared it?

LOL

Their bitchin that Physx isn't even enabled in the game yet and is coming in a patch.

HAhahahahaha

Just get into that forum and look around.

Priceless.

yeah I just read that on a couple of other sites that most of the physx effects we had in the tech demo are not in the actual game. if this is true then that makes the people praising the physx in that game look like fools. Atech ran all his benchmarks with the tech demo so thats we he acting the way he is. he doesnt even know what the retail game looks like or how it runs.
