Does Any GPU OC Utility Work With Everything?

I like MSI Afterburner, and it works well, but when it comes to voltage tuning, it doesn't work with everything. For example this 55nm GTX 260 I just got, Afterburner doesn't allow me to manipulate its voltage. I had to download EVGA Precision to play with the voltage. I don't like having to use different utilities, I would much rather learn to use one utility and stick with that

My question is: which GPU overclocking utility has the best support for voltage modifications and other features in general?
 
Usually, it's After Burner. But, it doesn't support the voltage regulators on some cards.
You could try rivatuner, but IIRC AB is based on rivatuner.
 
MSI Afterburner has the widest support of any program that I am aware of. No one program covers all possible voltage regulators, though.
 
Edit: Thanks for the messages about the CD key on the screenshot,I am ok with it though since its tied to my steam account.

MSI Afterburner and EVGA Precision are made by the same person.I am sure if you read the MSI Afterburner documentation you could also change voltage with MSI Afterburner.I can not see the regulators support being different between both programs.
For each program also support many other tools.

MSI Afterburner has the most far reaching support for GPUs, that said, not all voltage regulators on all GPUs are the same......there are some that AB just won't work with, but it isnt many.

I've used Precision, but I like AB much more, especially since I have AMD based GPUs.

I honestly do not think there is one utility that will do what you are after. it is curious to me that Precision will adjust voltage on your card in question, while AB won't when the source is the same for both utilities.
 
Try nVidia Inspector. It works for almost all nVidia cards.
 
Wow, this is really weird, I thought eVGA Precision would work with this 55nm GTX 260, but it doesn't, when I click 'Set' the voltage resets to the stock 1.12v. Is it possible to change voltages on this at all?

I was also wondering, is it possible to flash a new BIOS with different voltage for idle, video acceleration, and 3D? Or if not all of them, any of them? I tried with NiBiTor, but it only lets me choose from three preselected values, which is BS.

I can't get MSI afterburner to control the voltage of my MSI video card. Surely I must be doing something wrong?

Do I need to have the MSI drivers to get this feature? I use the standard AMD Catalyst drivers instead.
 
yeah i checked that, also voltage monitoring but it doesn't seem to pick that up either
 
Update, I saw from another thread that perhaps I needed a more recent version of the MSI afterburner software. Even though the latest official release states it has support for 6950 cards, downloading the latest beta release of the software and installing that seemed to activate voltage control on my GPU.

I still am a little confused over the actual voltage control though. If the GPU voltage graph is anything to go by, I cannot enable custom voltage control unless I also use the "force constant voltage" mode too. Also, voltages as reported by HWMonitor and GPU-Z (in which I actually cannot find any voltage reporting) are still erroneously reporting 0.9/1.15V at idle/load, even though MSI afterburner seems to be reporting correctly if I force constant voltage and then define a new limit. I am pretty sure the voltage is actually changing too since I can see changes in temps and also can induce instability in the system if I undervolt too much.

In some testing I did yesterday, I was able to lower the voltage from the default of 1.110V down to 1.045V all the while passing Furmark and Prime95 simultaneous operation. Temps under that "max load" condition came down about 2-3C (70C both GPU and CPU). However, when I went to play some Star Trek Online, I kept getting driver crashes, after which the GPU would reset itself to 1.110V. So I ended up having to bump the voltage up to about 1.065V, or about 40mV less than default.

The good news is that this still seemed to lower my "gaming" temps by about 4-5C, making my GPU fan a little quieter (which was the initial goal). Now my gaming temps are about 62-63C. Not bad for a silent SFF gaming rig, and done with the MSI Twin Frozr III P/E which is slightly overclocked by the factory (AMD 6950 2GB running at 850/1300).

Still though, is it possible to have it run in variable voltage mode so when at idle/desktop, it runs at 0.9V (default) and when gaming it ups to 1.065V? Ultimately I don't think it matters a whole lot though since idle temps appear to be the same either way.

This is especially strange considering that the GTX 260 55nm reference design is supposed to use the NCP5388 by OnSemi, the same voltage controller found on the GTX 470 and GTX 460. You would think that it's the chip that has to be supported, not some other variable. But oh well, I still got one hell of a deal for $50 so no worries.

The 260 Core 216''s don't have adjustable voltage, it's locked in the bios.

By 'locked in the BIOS' do you mean that it can be enabled by putting a current through the right pin on the BIOS chip? I've done something like this before with a 6950 to enable writing to the BIOS, it would be good fun to do it again. :)
