I'm currently using an X800XL PCI-e card and I'm thinking about buying a crossfire motherboard. The problem is I can't find an X800 master card at either MonarchComputer or NewEgg. Does it exist or not?
X800 Crossfire Edition master cards do exist, but ATI stopped making the R420 chips back in November, I believe. They were in small supply to begin with anyway. Might be time to hit ebay.
the X800XL Master card did exist and is available here in Canada as far as i know
all u need is the X800XT Master Card which is kind of expensive compared to the X800XL that you have
No, there never was an X800XL Crossfire Edition. There was an "X800 Crossfire Edition" which was more or less an X800XT with the dongle plug in the back. This is the card needed in order to run crossfire X800 anything. Unfortunately, unlike the X1300/X1600 series, a master card is needed.
I got one at Newegg a few months back for ~ $190. It is actually the same as an X800XL except has the compositing chip on it. The clock speeds are identical to my X800XL. I thought it was worth getting, mostly to try out Crossfire. Try using Froogle. I only noticed places that were selling them for ~ $300. It is not worth that much, as you would be better off getting a 7900GT or 512MB X1800XT for that price now.
Yea those things were expensive when they first came out too.... With 4-6 months to dry out the stock, GG on finding one for a respectable price. You'll get more performance from just getting a new gen card.
