Does a tablet like this exist yet?

I've not really gotten into the tablet field yet, but I'm aware of the desire to have one and various reasons why.

When i got to thinking about what I'd want in a tablet though, it seems to me this doesn't exist yet. Or if it does, maybe some members here can point me in the right direction.

-Ability to connect an external keyboard and mouse (either via physical connections or bluetooth, don't care)

-One, preferably two usb ports

-hdmi or dport output

-Expandable storage (ie: SD card slot); in other words, I need more storage space than a piddly 32 or 64GB.

-Must have ethernet port (no, wifi isn't always going to cut it for me; if they can make an adapter for the usb port mentioned above, that's fine)

-Ability to run various Windows-based programs, such as Microsoft Office suite; other Windows apps (games, video players, etc.) would be great too.

The last one is a big one for me because I'd want to be able to edit Word or Excel documents right there on the tablet itself. I'm sure it would be for many other people too, but as far as I know nothing does this yet.

Depending on how much performance you need a Clover Trail Windows 8 tablet might be perfect. They'll handle Office well but they won't suitable for games. If you want as much performance as is possible in a tablet then something like the Surface Pro definitely.

They have made tablets like that for over a decade, it was the orginal tablet. Think pad, x, or dell XT

An ethernet port with shield is 0.6 inches tall, which is monstrously thick to put on a tablet these days. Tablets that are more than 0.4 inches thick are no longer cool, and tablets that are more than 0.5 inches thick are called thickpads and are compared to your mom.

I imagine that the tablet would be docked while using an ethernet port as carrying a tablet connected to a cable doesn't make a lot of sense.

Yes, an ethernet port is still a requirement. There are plenty of places that don't trust wireless networking and if I'm in a business that I need to connect into, I need an ethernet port.

Do any of those usb-ethernet adapters actually work?

The Tegra 4 SoC should have on-die USB3.0 capabilities.

As far as ethernet, you're not going to find it unless you're willing to buy something like an X230T.

The ep121 if you can find them should give you what you want. Samsung also has some good offerings in that regard too.

You just need a tablet with an attached keyboard. Or, you could just buy a notebook and a tablet.

The Archos tablets have the option of 32gig or a 250gig HDD. You can find them in either Win or Android.
