I was having an issue with a game and this guy told me to do a repair install of Win7. Win7 had nothing to do with the issue but when I said I won't do a repair install because it overwrites the registry. He says it does not overwrite the registry. I haven't done a repair install since XP but am sure it overwrote the registry on XP when I did. Does it or doesn't it do that on Win7? How is it a repair if it doesn't overwrite the old registry? The registry is often the cause of issues.

OK, now I see why he said that. You do an upgrade install to repair Win7 so that leaves all your settings and registry intact.

I've done that and it seems to work nicely.
