Who plays dod source? I play css and I really like it, but at the same time i sort of hate it.

My main question is, how many changes are in dod? Is it still possible, to sneak up on someone, empty a full clip into them and then have then not only not die, but turn around and kill you with one shot? The guys who play know what im talking about.

I want to try dod bad, but i don't know if its worth giving up css (id have to give it up, don't ask why...)

CSS SUCKS, I played it for a year and I loved some things, graphics, engine. But it is cheap ad unreal, etc. I have not played DOD, but i have heard that it is alot better than css. I would say go buy COD2 its insanely good.

Oh don't you worry, I'm getting COD2....muhuwahahahaahah

but i'm still interested in dod. any other thoughts?

I personally enjoy DoD: Source very much, though I'm already getting sick of the maps. Valve's working on more maps, which is fine, but they'll probably be updates of classic DoD maps, which isn't so fine.

I can't speak for lag, but client prediction is off, therefore hitboxes don't lead the models. It's pretty unlikely that you'll sneak up behind someone, empty your clip, and still have the guy kill you. Unless your aim sucks, anyway.

As far as CoD2 goes... get BiA: Earned in Blood instead.

BIA? the first one was horrifying, especially the mp.

yeah, some of the maps are getting old for me too, but i still love dust2, office, and some others.

hate the train and tides and another one that i can't thjink of....god i hate that map...

Its not bad but they did change things of course.

- No more bayonet
- No more smacking somone with the butt of your garand
- No paratrooper class
- Theres grenades you can shoot from a kar/garand (they go to far and straight)
- Sniper rifles dont kill in one shot anywhere on your body now
- You can punch someone with your fist while using a Thompson or mp30 (righ-click)
- Gun models are probably the best Ive seen.. especially for the Colt .45
- Allies get this knife with a brass knuckles handle (lame imo)
- You can get smoke grenades now in certain classes
- It is overal easier to kill people IMO
- Only 4 maps were release so far (Anzio, Donner, Flash, Avalanche)
- When you right-click with your garand or kar, you look through gun sights and walk slow (really annoying when your used bayoneting people)
- Not all classes have pistols or knives
- I could go on..

I like DOD:S but theres a few things I hate about it.. I want my bayonet back!

BiA was horrifying only if you love Nazi funhouses, like CoD. I personally can't understand why anyone would want to play a game as scripted as CoD.

Oh, and they've tweaked BiA's multiplayer for Earned in Blood.

Well said! Basically everything I thought when I played Dod Source for the first time. Im waiting for an update before I play it again. I had the dreaded Credit Card Decline problem many had with Steam so I only got 2 days of playtime before my credit card was falsely accused of a zero balance. (My only problem ever with Steam since it's incarnation:mad: )

I also think the maps are too damn small. They are the same size maps but the added physics objects make it very cramped.

its called aiming, lol. i actually like it because then not everyones prancing around with iron sights on.

I was a casual DOD player before the source version came out. Now I'm a fanatic. I love this game. I play it more than BF2. At first, I thought it would suck because of the changes, and I thought HDR was just a graphics gimmick. But now I'm so used to it, it just rocks. The added realism the updated graphics, physics, HDR, and sound give the game are great. I think it's definately an improvement over the old DOD.

I've never emptied a clip and not killed the enemy in DOD:S. But then again, if I sneak up, it's going to be my knife or fist that does the killing  ...except one time I backed up a bit and used a rocket. that was fun.

Uhh, sniper rifles still kill in one hit to the torso/head, just not the limbs.

The garand takes two hits to kill now, even to the body instead of one like it used to (imo that makes it suck).

The main gripes I have with the game are:

The maps all "feel" the same, they are all mid-day time looking, clear weather, urban based maps. There's no "natural" rural maps, or different time of the day based maps, or maps with weather, etc.

Many people get uptight on the dod:s boards when people want these because they stupidly say "that'll make x class be nerfed if you can't see at NIGHT!" which is retarded if you ask me...that's kind of the freaking point! variety!

Then the guns, The rifles espically.

The Iron sights are just......well the suck to put it bluntly. They are WAAAAY too slow to bring up into view, and then they make your movement speed extremely slow, they basically treat iron sights as a "sniper scope" and that is NOT how iron sights are or should be treated. Iron sights should be a lot quicker to bring up, and while you bring them up your movement speed shouldn't be that much reduced.

So basically, you use iron sights to "snipe" with (the view zooms in when you bring them up....) and you don't use them for actual "aiming" at people, unless you want to die, because the time it takes to brin them up/penalty to your movement speed, if you don't kill them in one hit they'll just turn to you and smg your ass.

Then on top of this, the rifles have no melee way to fight without switching to the knife, you don't have a bayonet nor a rifle butt hit.

As far as smg's go, I feel like their "aiming" is a bit..lacking, they can hardly hit anthing at a distance because of hte cone of fire. Even in a short burst you can't shoot someone with a decent aim at a moderate range, unless you get lucky.

I wish they'd have Iron sights for all the guns and have them similar to Red orchestra.

Otherwise, I find myself for the most part actually enjoying the game. they just need to put out some more varied maps (i'd love to see a bastogne based map) among a few fixes to the guns, etc.

I love the physics/ragdolls, aswell as the way the sounds sound "distant" when they are, among other things.

The main reason I want my bayonet (or butt end of the garand) back is for those CQB times where if I couldnt shoot someone I could just righ-click and bayonet them in the chest.

I like the maps dont get me wrong but they could of released better ones than four current ones. It seems to me that they only wanted to release the competition maps used in leagues, it reminds me of when CS:S came out. I wanna see dod_overlord in source, but alot bigger so people can't just sit there and snipe on the beach (lol i did that too much). Im also looking forward to seeing dod_jagd and dod_merderet, but I'd love to see the following maps re-done in source:

- dod_caen
- dod_hill
- dod_glider
- dod_zafod
- dod_schwetz (love this map)
- dod_cherbourg (all time fav map)
- dod_koln

dod:s is great to sit down a feed your fps ww2 shooter fix ... get into action quickly and play for 30 mins ... and your good ...

they do need more maps and the m1 needs to kill with one shot most of the time or shoot quicker with less recoil ...

fun game ... 20 bucks

It looks pretty, runs well, rag dolls and bodies and blood are cool. Other than that, it seems weak. Not compelling, maps are boring.

Random firing cone = gay and annoying

Recoil affecting your aim I can understand, but having a random firing cone even on the first shot is stupid. It makes the thompson and mp-30 utterly useless at anything beyond 10 feet.

Not necessaraly, if you pull your mouse down when your spraying with the assult weapons, i atleast get many kills from 15-30 ft away

imho DoD (and DoD:S) eats all the other WWII shooters for breakfast. Nothing compares if you like teamplay.

If you like rambo style ww2 games, this is not for you. If you're a good teamplayer who isn't just there to have the most kills, then you have the most satisfying game experience you can possibly have.

I have to disagree here a bit, I find Red orchestra a bit more teamplayer centric, in DoD:S a lot of people "rambo" it except for flag caps, then people just run away in their own order at the enemy, smg's espically.

I want dod_charlie

and fix up the bloody ironsights, they arent worth using especially the garand because by the time you get it back on ur target ur either dead or ur target is lost

Heck no. You can kill four people with one clip, and that's counting misses.

Yes, they are worth using. They aren't meant for heat-of-battle aiming, though.

They are only worth using as a freaking sniper scope, because that's what they modeled the Iron sights after it seems.

Iron sights ARE meant to be used in the heat of the battle, that is if you want to hit what you want to....

It's not nearly as slow to use iron sights in real life, and it doesn't obstruct your view as much as they do in DoD:s (you can still have a bit of perphial vision coming out of the sides).

Blitzing in anzio with a submachine gun loadout is great fun.

Fisting players in CQB never gets old.

You're demanding realism from a game that isn't meant to provide it.

The iron sights turn the Rifleman into a general utility/support class at long range. Rifle grenades and iron sights provide attack support. If you're playing Rifleman as a primary attack class, you're playing it wrong. Change class to Assault, or Support if you still want single-shot capability.

Just becuase the game isn't a realism sim doesn't mean the rifles shouldn't be able to do what rifles do!

Rifles were the main types of guns used in the war, and they shouldn't get the short end of the stick.

In no way are the rifles "the short end of the stick." They simply aren't all-in-one weapons for gameplay reasons. If you pick Rifleman, your role is to be at the rear of an attacking force, behind the Assault class. Period. That's how it works in DoD:S, and it works quite well.

Just because the class wasn't what you expected doesn't mean it sucks.

The rifles shouldn't be at the rear of the attacking force, that's my point.

In earlier DoD when the garand had a one-shot kill to the chest it was a lot better to use, even with no iron sights at all.

Stiler said:

And why not? Would you prefer to hide behind cover and pour round after round of ammo at a target only to succeed in pinning it down? That's what the M1 was used for. You forget that you're playing an action-oriented multiplayer game. Issues of fairness and balance come before issues of accuracy to the subject material. If you want realism, get Brothers in Arms.

In earlier DoD when the garand had a one-shot kill to the chest it was a lot better to use, even with no iron sights at all.

Yes, and DoD: Source doesn't, due to the desire of Valve to rebalance the game. This is not difficult to understand.

The garand was hardly used to simply supress a target..., not everyone had a thompson/bar, etc you know...

They have iron sights for a reason....to shoot things you aim at.

To give a garand one-hit kills to the chest and actual Iron sights that work like real life iron sights and not like a fubared sniper scope wouldn't make the class useless or overpowered, just allow people to actually USE the freaking rifle like it's meant to be used.

SMGS would still have an advantage at CQB over the garand/kar because of it's ROF.

Are you still arguing this? Valve set up DoD:S the way they wanted to. You either play it, or you don't. Simple as that.

well I still think the way recoil works on the garand with ironsights...it should be decreased somewhat so it doesnt go flying everywhere, giving u an oppurtunity to make the finishing shot

Yea, god forbid someone posts their opinons on a game forum, or even on the DoD boards where they have a forum specifically for suggestions/thoughts  .

It isn't like they actually care about their customers and feedback, or that they might actually change things because of how people feel about it.

And God forbid someone challenge your reasoning.

I didn't know Valve was taking design suggestions from the HardForums. Thanks for letting me know. Hey, Valve! Drop Steam's custom GUI already!

Knock it off! Man what is it with you guys tonight? No flaming! Be civil please.

It's kinda fun... but then I wonder... where's the tanks, jeeps, planes, anti-aircraft, artillery, boats, etc. Then I remember... that's Battlefield 1942 and it's STILL fun.

Too bad. DOD has good graphics, but gun fighting gets boring like 10 yrs. ago.

Sticking with BF42. Still the most fun online IMHO.
:D

Not to be an ass, but you gotta be a pretty bad shot if you empty a clip at someone, just to have them turn around and kill you. ESPECIALLY in dod where the bullets actually do damage.

If you were saying this about CS, I'd understand. Those are bb guns.
