I just pieced together a build based on parts from the forum on here. I have everything hooked up (i think), and no display out or POST or anything.

The CPU cooler fan looks like its trying to turn every once in awhile but doesnt spin. The back 120mm fan turns on so it seems as if the PSU is working.

just read somewhere "You can destroy a motherboard if you have standoffs installed where there are no holes in the motherboard."

I think there might be an extra standoff under the motherboard. Hopefully i didn't fry the motherboard. Oh goodness :(

Looks like the PSU has no CPU power 8 pin connecter. How the heck does this PSU not have a CPU power cable? This is lame.

If you have not connected an 8-pin connector to the motherboard the computer won't boot properly.Get a new power supply and you should be fine.
 
Gosh, I feel so bad dude. Did you connect the 8 pin EPS +12V connector on the mobo? The antec 380 psu does not have that connector and you will have to get an adaptor for it. You will need an adaptor like this
 
Its ok HWguru. I guess I will buy the adapter for 11 dollars from newegg. I wonder if best buy or radioshack carry these, i doubt it.
 
Yah, I doubt it also especially Best Buy. You can try Radioshack. If you have a Frys store nearby, they may carry it also.
 
None of those nearby. I just ordered from newegg. HWGuru, good trick to recommend parts that need extra adapters ;) j/k It is not a huge issue. Live and learn.
 
some other websites said you can just plug in a 4 pin and it will work but i think i will just wait on the cable adapter for safety reasons :)
 
I should go over the build more thoroughly next time so that they will know what to do when they purchase it. Sometimes, I don't think about that. I'm too focus on meeting the OP budget and trying to include all the parts w/free shipping :p

No, you can just use the 4 pin for now. You won't really need the 8 pin unless you plan on overclocking. Worst case scenario it just won't be stable. Nothing will be damaged.
If it was a big deal the entire 8 pin socket would have been designed to prevent a 4 pin from being inserted.

I agree... and that "worst case scenario" is extremely unlikely, even if you were OC'ing, since its a mere Athlon X2. All you're doing is spreading the power throughout 8 wires instead of 4 with the adapter -- it still draws the same amount of power from the same 4 wires connected to the PSU, so its pretty useless, IMO.

its all good. You helped me back on my first build in 2007. You apparently keep the forum going ;)

THe other problem is the case POWER LED wire is only two wires but the two wires plug into a 3 pin adapter. The MB POWER LED slot is only made for a 2 pin adapter.

Its not that big of a deal. I am just going to tell my g/f she won't have a power led.

Also when running the windows XP install disk, it is only showing the HD as 131GB instead of 500GB. The BIOS wanted me to run the HD in ADHI mode instead of IDE, but all i found was that ADCI is hot swappable which my g/f wont need.

Is ADCI needed for the drive to show all 500GB?
 
What kind of case is it. Can you provide images of the pins on the mother board? If you can't overlap the 3-pin connector on the motherboard pins, you could shave the extra bit off with a sharp blade so it will fit. If you can overlap it you can just swap the wires in the plug if you need them to align to the proper pins. Don't worry about it going the wrong way as there is so little voltage going through it, it won't fry your mother board if you accidentally get it backwards. If it's wrong, the power indicator just won't light.

Is the hard drive partitioned or is there another drive attached?

the case is listed above. The case adapter is 3 pin adapter but the outer two pins contain the wires. And yes I know which is positive and negative.

There is only one hard drive connected, as listed above.
 
Just pull the ground wire out and move it next to the positive wire, and plug in the header so that those two pins contact the needed pins on the mobo.

Your XP installation disk is old. Use nLite or find an ISO with at least XP SP2 slipstreamed into it. AHCI is not needed to detect the full capacity of the disk, but SP1 or SP2 is.

HG does do a great job with his builds. :p

The problem is the MB pins are surrounded by a wall, there isnt room even if i did manage to move wires. The 3 pin adapter would still need to be cut down to two pin adapter somehow.

:confused: Did you get a new revision board? because from the picture on newegg, the 3-pin power LED isn't surrounded by anything, and its 3 pins, not two, for rev1.0. The manual for rev1.1 shows the same thing. The power LED header isn't in the same FP header set within the plastic shroud, its right outside of it, according to page 7 (and page 27, too) of the mobo manual.

I ran my mobo with only the 4 plugged in because my PSU didnt have the 8 and I had 0 issues for a long time.
 
You can just break off the plastic around the 2 wires, and plug the wires directly into the pins on the motherboard. I've done this a few times with no problems.

Thanks! You are right. I need to pull the manual again because i thought it said the top two left pins in the F-Panel was the LED connector. I must have misread it.

EDIT: i thought it was the two green in the upper left of f-panel
