Do you need a dedicated graphics card for video editing?

Just bought a cannon vixia hf10 for a good price and plan to do some video editing once it arrives. Since getting rid of the gtx295, I'm wondering if on board graphics is enough to handle video editing. I would think that it's the processor that is crucial for video editing correct? If so then I'm thinking I would be fine with the quad @ 3.6ghz - but I just don't know.

I'll probably be using final cut pro or sony vegas if that matters. I don't want not having a graphics card to hold me back, and make the editing process drag. And I have been looking for an excuse to get a gts250...but if the on board graphics suffice, then I'll stick with what I got, because I won't be playing video games on my machine.

The Intel GMA 3100 is not that good for displaying video especially HD video. It definitely does not support full 1080P playback. It does not support VC-1 and AVC hardware acceleration. I would get a cheap video card like a Radeon HD 4350.
