urrrg i tried everything to quiet my rig down: putting it in closet, completely modded psu fans, got fan controller, cut down to 1 case fan.

and its still kinda annoying when it buzzes. although i can mod my psu some more and stick the rear fan on my rheobus, so then if i tune everything down via rheobus and buy an arctic silencer, i can get it more or less silent (that is if i basically underclock to 3200+ speeds, at which i can use 1.575 vcore i think)

2500xpm @ 2.48 ghz 11x225. 1.725 vcore, 2.8vdimm
9600xt
modded thermaltake 420watt

oh yeah also, my side fan is almost at 7v, cpu fan is just above 7v, the one psu fan is below 7v, and the other psu fan is running regularly.

Damn 9600xt fan, it makes that stupid whine if i turn everything else down to a whisper.

it might be aided by the fact that i don't hear very well (honestly), but i have a quiet case. the most annoying thing is the 6800gt fan, which doesn't really make it out of the case when i put the cover back on (or my heater in my room drowns it out.)

here's my setup:
antec lanboy = 2x120mm fans. front one stock, back one a 34db fan modded for 7v
ocz powerstream 420 (quite quiet!)
zalman cnps-7000A-cu (set to spin up when temps go over 40c, which is normally only when i'm gaming)
stock 6800gt (bragh!)

hd's don't make any notable whine, so that's good. my cd burner is quite noisy when i pop something in though, but that can't be avoided.

I got an older version of the ever popular chieftecs, and i got 2x120 panaflos in the front with 2x80 panaflos in the back with a 7000cu and a X-connect (2nd gen ty kthx hasnt kilt me yet).

My system is loud. I will admit, it is a tad annoying. But I sleep with it on about 3 feet from my head, at the same level. So really, its not that big of a deal for me.

I only got a 9600 pro, so really the fan is so small it does nothing.

i also got one of those small black ones on the xt, but it only whines cause it IS SO SMALL and it runs so fast.

My fans arent exactly quiet, but they dont bother me. Not to mention everything else going on around the computer (tv and general noise) make it where you dont notice.

urrg lucky for you. but my comp is in my room, with windows and doors shut and no music playing. i mean if i game then i don't notice it... but i can't work in silence with it on

My servers are loud as hell. 4x Delta 130cfm fans in each one with a 1ghz OC. Now our personal computers are nice and quiet. I can hear the aquariums bubbling. My fiance's computer has a 450mhz OC on it and mine currently has a 400mhz OC on it and has been running at 3.6ghz since last May. . Going to jack that up in a few days as it's perfectly stable currently at Vcore of 1.36, NBV at 1.5, DDR2V at 1.85. Ext Clock is at 224 :) I still have lots of room to play :D

i have sort of modded my pc for being quiet.. the zm80d-hp on my 5950 ultra.. no fan.. xp-120 running a panaflo at 7v.. 5 80mm fans all at 7v and i have a 92 mm at 12v(for some reason this fan i found pushes a ton of air without any noise)
i have even suspended my barricuda in rubber bands to make the hdd quieter

im going to be cutting up the front of my case to have 2x 120 mm panaflo intake and cutting the back for 2x 92 mm panaflo.. rest of the 80mms are going to be panaflo as well.. all at 7v or so :D

what im really wondering now... am i going too far.. you have to be within 3 or 4 feet of the comp to even hear it even now...

zalman on the CPU & undervolted 120mm panaflos, stack of 7200.7 seagates? can't hear a damn thing.

Similar position to Eclipse - running a Sonata with 2*120 fans... Well you can see the spec for yourself. I've got my 6800Ultra geared up to 100% fan when using 3D & that is BY FAR the noisiest component. I can even hear it over everything else when it's throttled back to the lowest setting for 2D.

That said, my system is still what I would class as 'very quiet'.

i just modded my psu so now both fans are 80mm at 7v. now the only noise i can hear is the 9600xt's whine sound. .... DAMN!

actually now that i htink about it, it is pretty quiet

I have a 1/8 horsepower fan sitting behind me right now. We had a slight flood in the basement last week and it's helping to dry it out.

But I definitely can't hear any of my computers now :-p.

i got like incredibly loud fans, but i just crank the tunes up or throw the tv on and it all goes away. its like a constant whirring and it gets kinda annoying, but i can cope

You may want to pick up an 120mm fan case and undervolt those. There is also a fanless psu out there, not sure how reliable it is though. As for the ati card your screwed.

yes, my computer is loud. 2 x 120 mm panaflo U1A fans driving my rad can make quite a racket, depending on how fast i run them(44 dba peak).

that being said, my system is a whole world quieter now than it was with my SP-97 and delta screamer (55 dba).

it's hard to overclock to high speeds, at low noise levels.

well i CAN turn everything single fan in my comp (including both psu fans) down to 7v or below, but then the damn thing idles at 50c+. right now i'm doing high 40s for idle. Also, i only hear the ati fan when i turn everything below 7v, otherwise the general case noise cancels out the vid card fan.

With all the fans turned up my computer is pretty loud. Good think its in my living room and not my bedroom. Anyway, after years of having OCed rigs with lots of fans you get use to it. Plus when I play games, I put my speakers up so it pretty much drowns out any fan noise.

my 1st oc'ed rig had 5 Delta Black Label 92mm fans... i liked the performance, but couldnt' stand the noise

my 2nd to last rig, had custom copper fanless heatsinks on almost everything... a huge copper HSF on the CPU turned down to 7V, one volt modded L1A panaflo in front of the HDs, and 2 volt modded L1A panaflos in the PSU... that thing was so quiet, that the hard drive ticking was the only annoying noise :D

sadly, i then upgraded to a vapochill... which cools nicely, but is a noisy bastage

i really need to set up a quiet box again... i'll probably trade my vapochill in for one b/c i seriously don't think i notice the extra 400mhz that i get... but i do notice the extra noise

Antec P160 Case here, 3x120mm fan, 2x80mm (XP-120 and Enermax Dual Fan) NV Silencer 5 (6800GT) 40mm NB-1C Chipset Cooler

The hard drives are louder than the fans and the cdrom spinning is more than twice as loud as the comp.

I hear "air" being pushed around as louder than anything else in the system.

thats exactly my problem, if it wasnt for that, my pc would be so quiet i would need to figure out how to make the voltage regulators quieter

use a laptop to work on!
that will save your ears.
put your gaming rig in another room, so noise wont be an issue

easiest solution right here

i'm the the same situation. i'm debating whether to underclock (or less oc'ed) my 2500m and then buy an arctic silencer. this way, i can make it actually completely silent.

in my experience, laptops are almost as loud as my current system when the fans are on full blast... not to mention, they make your lap very warm as well

I dont consider mine to be very loud after tossing the Tornados out of it. Cant call it silent either. It is balanced just right for my taste.

One of mine is very loud thanks to a pair of delta screamers and a 100cfm 120mm fan, and my main rig isn't loud but the fan noise is still a little too noticeble for my tastes.
