Do video card ramsinks actually do anything?

From a review I read over the Swiftech copper one's, it seems they do nothing. Have they helped anyone?

they keep my memory cooler, but don't do anything for my overclock. more than anything else, i just like the added peace of mind from having VGA memory that DOESN'T get hot enough to burn my fingers.

they probably make a difference if you run volt mods though.

I have the swiftech MC14's and they do keep my RAM cool. I have a little air flow going over them (along with over my system RAM) and they're all cool :)

Depends on what you are looking for. While it did nothing for my OC, attaching RAM sinks to my 9500np
made a very noticable difference in how the card ran at top settings.

Before the sinks the card could only play UT'99 at 1200x1600 for a few minutes with everything maxed out.
After the sinks it runs indefinitely at the same settings. And yes the sinks do get a bit warm.

Are you guys using Zalman, Swiftech, or something else?

I'm thinking of buying that heatsink which comes with little dinky ramsinks, but I wasn't sure if there would be any performance increase by using the Swiftech sinks. Sytrin actually sells the heatsink without the turbine fan in a normal VF1 model (the linked one if the VFI Plus). The heatsink is actually leaves room for a second card to be installed without using the turbine, so that's what I'm planning to do with a 120mm fan. I'm not sure if the VF1 model comes with ramsinks or not, that's pretty much why I asked if they were that important compared the the core heatsink.
