Do those Ebay "Make your own Projectors" really work?

there was a huge thread about this not to long ago. try that search box up above
 
It’s one of those subjects that require careful reading, and some thought.

An example:

The “Yugo” as a car, really worked. There were other very obvious better choices when it came to cars though.

Make sense? ;)
 
I believe it was either Toms or Anand that did an article on them.Apparently there is an better and easier way. Do a search on both sites and there is an article step by step that you wont have to pay 20 bucks for
 
Guys, this idea is from the 60’s and nothing new. A bright 13” TV and the proper lens and yes, you can project a picture on a wall, or screen.

Edmund Scientific used sell the kits way back in the day. Some major companies actually sold them as “Projection TV” but the idea died quickly.

Bad idea then, worse idea now.

With the exception of pretty bad looking blacks, the tomshardware idea doesn't seem that bad.
 
me and my friend are doing the THG DIY projector over christmas break this year. we have the LCD (sans power cord thanks to a misleading Ebay page) and the projector should be coming. if this thing ever turns out ill post pics!
 
My brother is thinking about doing the THG DIY projector. We just need to find a cheap overhead projector....
 
i want to make one really bad but i dont undertand the guide that well, i think i need a more detailed set of instuctions
 
You would be better off to go ahead and spend some cash (200-400) on one of the CRT projectors on ebay. Many were made in the 90s and sold for 20K new, but can be had cheap now. Most can take a HDTV signal if it is RGBHV.
