Okay, first off, NO - IT'S NOT FOR ME!

I was curious, however, what sort of drives and setup are used in the ultra-mega-corp buildings to save and read huge media files (Uncompressed AVI/MPEG, for example.)

Assuming your local cable channel has a station devoted to itself, which most do, how do they read the video data that's sent out? Do they have a Mini-DV tape sitting in a deck somewhere looping? Or is it streamed off a HDD? If they WERE to stream it off a hard drive, what would they use? A single, ultra-fast drive, or a Raid-0 of the same drives? Maybe 0+1?

Or are the drives really not a limiting factor by this point?
 
I have a friend who does lots of video work, and he can stream high-res HDTV off his server (which just uses a reagualr ATA drive) across his local gigabit lan with no problems at all. I don't think you need anything special, but I could be wrong.
 
Playback, single drive's just fine. It's when it comes to editing that other arrangements are beneficial.

Could be wrong but pretty sure changers are still the norm rather than computer storage.
 
We A large amount of scsi jbod boxes to people that work in the adult film bussiness but I believe most of that is on demand type viewing servers.
